Ecommerce industry is a rage today. Every second person wants to open an online shop and sell their wares. But is it that easy? Does everything work perfectly fine? We're not speaking about eBay or Amazon...their scale of operation is massive and extremely smooth. If people are finding an easy way to ecommerce success thinking they can become the next Amazon, then it will take a lot of hard work (and most likely not happen). But there are few things to keep in mind while starting an ecommerce store and we will discuss it here.

Great website design: This should be a priority. Nobody will visit, let alone purchase something from your store, if you have a shabby looking web design. Your own website should be properly built. If you cannot do something on your own, then take the help of a professional web design company. They will help you with a great looking website that you can be proud of.

Use SSL certificate: SSL certificates are security certificates that are issued to ensure that the data is passed through securely. If you have an online store or about to start one, you need to have SSL certificate installed on your website so that the data (credit card information etc) that you are taking from your customers is secured and not prone to theft.

Good products to sell: If you are selling just like everybody else, there's nothing to make your store stand out. You need to start exploring the market and to check what you can sell that not many people are aware of. There should be some uniqueness to your product so that customers can visit your website over and over again. Besides, it will also make your website popular for that particular products which in turn means free marketing and no advertising cost. So you win on that front as well.

Good images and description: Extending from the point above, if you are using the same stock photos and having the same description, there is nothing that differentiates you from the rest of the players except the cost. What you can do is to buy a product yourself and click your own photos so that you can at least have some unique photographs to lure your customers in with. Also, write your own product description as it will sound personal and more engaging to your intended audience.

An easy checkout process: It is estimated that at least 40% of the customers who put products in cart will fall out during the checkout process. You don't want that as a business owner. Having an easy checkout process ensures that. Make sure that you don't let your customers feed in unnecessary fields that are not required. That will only make the situation worse. Also try to have a distraction free checkout which means no upsells or cross-sells. When a customer has placed something in his cart, the only option that should be given is for him to take his card out and pay you money. Upselling and cross-selling are distraction and you run the risk of losing the customer altogether.

Keep these tips in mind while you are in the process of opening an online store. I'll write more on this subject very soon.
