There is more and more talk about what types of products we are using in our homes and putting on our bodies. Most people would agree that what we put into our bodies is really important. Eating clean, while it has its challenges, just seems like common sense.

But what about what we are putting on our skin, or breathing in? Are you thinking about that?

Did you know that the chemical fragrances that we use in our laundry soap, softners, and dryer sheets can be harmful?

When switching to more natural laundry options it’s easy to miss that fresh smelly laundry scent. However, there are alternatives that smell just as fresh and are actually fresh, instead of a fake chemical smell.

Here are 5 ways to make your laundry smell good naturally.

Use A Good (Natural) Soap

Since you are switching to a less toxic laundry routine you will want to use a more natural laundry soap. Seventh Generation is a great brand to get you started. You can find this at most grocery stores.

DIY Dryer Sheets

Making your own laundry essentials is a great way to guarantee that there are no harmful chemicals in your laundry.

You can make your own dryer sheets with some cut up fabric, vinegar, and essential oils.

DIY Laundry Scent Booster

Read up on how toxic laundry scent boosters are and then you’ll be ditching those for your own recipe. It’s easy to make. Just mix up some salt and essential oils and toss it in the wash with your next load of laundry.

Essential Oils

Essential oils are the best way to make your laundry smell good naturally. Essential oils are the most natural way to scent anything because they come straight from the plant and have no added chemicals.

Essential oils can be added to your laundry in a number of ways.

Add a few drops on your wool dryer balls and toss them in the dryer. Add them to your laundry DIYs, or even add them to a wet towel that you toss in with the clothes that are about to be dried.

Vinegar and Baking Soda

Vinegar and baking soda are a great way to get rid of bad smells and bacteria that causes odors.

You can put a cup of vinegar straight into your wash. This will brighten up your laundry and get rid of any bad smells that have been lingering.

It’s also a great way to wash your washing machine. Just a run a load of vinegar and water without any clothes.

Baking soda is great for tossing in with your whites. It will remove stains and whiten things up.

Freshen Up That Laundry Naturally

You can use any combination of the above options to make your laundry smell good naturally. I myself use more than one of them at a time. Find your favorite ones and your laundry routine will be simple and non-toxic in no time.
