What is a High Pressure Water Pump?

A high pressure water pump or pressure washer is a powerful pump used to force water onto a surface at a high pressure to clean, descale or prepare it. It can be used in industrial, domestic or manufacturing settings. Such pumps are typically used in the high-pressure cleaning industry; for example, a pressure washer is used to wash cars in a cleaning garage.

Applications of High Pressure Water Pumps:

1. Power Generation: A high pressure water pump can be used in thermal power plants. The generator in a thermal plant is rotated by a steam turbine. This turbine is turned by a boiler, which is fed by a Boiler Feed pump. The pump produces high-pressure water that is fed to the boiler, where it is mechanically turned into steam and rotates the turbines to generate power.

  1. Manufacturing of Machinery: A descaling pump with high pressure water is used to clean raw materials for machinery manufacturing. For example, steel is passed through a rolling mill to alter its thickness and produce steel sheets. Invariably, oxidized scales remain on the sheets as impurities. This can compromise the appearance of the sheets and result in inferior-quality products. To avoid this, immediately before the steel enters a rolling mill, high-pressure water is uniformly sprayed on it to descale it. This form of steel is typically used in the manufacturing of refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machine, etc.
  2. Agricultural industry: Submersible or vertical turbine pumps are used to bring water to the surface. Centrifugal pumps, End Suction pumps or Split Case pumps are used for this purpose. They are required to meet the changing conditions above and below ground level, which have an effect on the flow of water for irrigation. Such pumps provide an even and measured amount of water to be distributed to the crops. Many fertilizers for plants also use high-pressure water pumps.
  3. Desalination: The process of turning sea water into fresh water for drinking and other purposes is called desalination. Sea water is passed through a special fibre at high pressure, which yields fresh water. In this process, high-pressure water pumps help convert sea water into fresh water using a technology called reverse osmosis, more popularly known as RO.

What is a Water Pressure Booster pump?

It is a pump that "boosts" or steps up the pressure of water flowing through a pipeline. It is used to create additional force in the flow of water. A low-pressure stream of water is passed through submersible pumps through taps or showers, and a water pressure booster helps to increase flow pressure.

These pumps have inbuilt impellers that draw in water from the storage tank and pump it at a higher pressure to the desired destination; for example, taps and showers in houses.

Major causes of low-pressure water are:

  • A large distance between the water source and the destination• Clogged pipelines• Additional water treatment systems along the line

ATE offers a wide range of superior quality high pressure water pumps and pressure booster pumps for industrial and domestic use. We represent some of the world’s best brands, such as Sulzer (ABS), Iwaki, Yamada and our own brand, TeraFlow. TeraFlow supplies technologically advanced and energy-efficient pumps for both domestic and industrial applications.
