Harvard referencing style is used to maintain knowledgeable property law. It is used by every student and writer who researches the quotes, finding and papers written by other authors. When the direct information is fetched by writers to add in their own paper, to support original findings or opinions, it is important to cite the source used. Every student conducts research on the work of credible writers to support and validate the conclusions of assignments. Thus, Harvard Referencing Style is used to refer the sources used for supporting and validating any point in the essay.

This type of citation format is typically used while writing assignments and research papers for social science, humanities and many more field of courses. There are many other types of referencing styles but Harvard Citation Process is most commonly used by students. It is a citation style that is used internationally in academic writing. In the paper, information is referred two times using this style. Any information that is taken from the paper, findings or ideas of another author, must be included in your paper using proper citation process.

It is very easy to deal with Harvard Referencing Style if you get to learn every rule and overall format used in this style. When a student writes a complicated assignment, citation helps a lot to reduce the complexity. The length of the research topic can be maintained by citing the source rather than adding whole information in the paper. It also helps to provide extra information to the readers. This parenthetical citation style comprises two main components.

  1. Reference list
  2. In-text citation

Reference list: As the name suggests, referencing list is a kind of index in which the sources used by the students are recorded to provide direction to the readers about the source used in the work.

Author’s name: It is very important to mention the name of the author while referencing the source. There may be some documents written by two or more authors. You will have to mention the name of every student on the list while citing a source in your document.

Publication year: The year of publication of the document from which the direct information is used by you, must be mentioned in the list.

Title: The title of the document used by you for validating or referencing your own paper should be listed.

City of publication: Sometimes, the city is mentioned in the list where the document was published. It is not so important to be mentioned in the Harvard Referencing Style.

Name of publisher: When the author is not the publisher or the author is anonymous, then the person’s name who published the document is stated.

The number of pages: The number of pages from where you collected information is described in the paper just to provide information to the audience.

The above-given details are provided in the referencing list of Harvard style. The sources are listed in an alphabetic manner. If the name of two authors is the same then the date of publication is seen to arrange the sources.

In-text citation: While writing the assignment or paper, the writer needs to mention the author’s name and year of publication after completing the line in which information by another author is added. This is very helpful to readers as they can get more detail at the same time while reading your paper. Whichever source is used by you, must be cited in the paper to reflect the contribution of the actual author. The point where you use information in the paper, at the same point you have to cite the sources.

You should keep a record of the referral sources used by you while working on an assignment. Manage and organize your sources easily by saving research and citations at a secured place.
