It is a market for buyers and the ball is no longer in the dealers’ court. Gone are the days when Prime Minister Padmini and the Ambassador of Hindustan were the only options for Buy a new car. With most of the major global brands available in a showroom near you, it was not a better time to buy a car.

Team-BHP lists the recommendations and precautions that Indian car buyers must take to make the most of their new purchases of cars.

Step 1: Homework

  • Budgets:

The purchase price is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the total cost of ownership. Check your vehicle’s future consumption by monitoring the value of used cars in your city and look for information on fuel efficiency, service costs and premiums and check new cars offers

After determining your price range, you should describe the type of car that best meets your needs: If you are from a family of two, you should not be interested in buying a large MUV like Toyota Innova. With a growing range of brands and models, you’ll probably find that many cars fit your budget. Check out Team-BHP reviews to see what your owners are saying about their devices. Think about how long you plan to keep your car and how your needs can change over time: Children (the future) can make a big difference here. Analyze your needs before deciding on the vehicle.

  • New or Used:

Due to high consumption rates, there are many delicious offers available on used cars. To determine which is best for you, see this article: Buy a new car versus a used car.

  • Diesel or petrol:

Rail technology shared diesel engines to a level of performance and reliability at least equal to gasoline cars. Diesel engines in the new era are high-speed, highly efficient and provide better handling than gasoline, but you have to pay a higher price. Some diesel engines may be cheaper if you see them from an EMI perspective (EMI + monthly operating cost).

  • Options:

Team-BHP recommends safety options such as ABS (anti-lock brake system), airbags and traction control systems. Consider the cars that offer these options. ABS + airbags have become so popular among the hatchback! Understandably, these life-saving features have an additional cost. In our view, they deserve it.

  • New generations:

In most cases, do not buy a car model about to stop; you will regret it when you need to find spare parts and your accountant will not like resale value either. Car models are marginally improved every year with major model updates every 4 to 5 years. See Team-BHP Forums for information on pending vehicle launches.

  • Search Manufacturer:

Many owners of Daewoo Cielo and Peugeot 309 regret buying their cars before closing the plant in India. Look for information about the manufacturer’s activity in India before signing the dotted line.

  • Use the "salt pinch" rule:

Ads and sellers can be misleading sources of information, and their claims should always be taken with a pinch of salt. Check out important points with car owners and look for direct reviews on the Team-BHP forum.

  • Avoid unauthorized merchants:

Unauthorized car dealers have some tempting ads that offer very low prices. Do not buy from an unofficial dealer; suspicious practices pay the bills of most of these companies and may end up paying price differentials in a maintenance / other long-term headaches.

  • Best moment:

Periods such as Sharad are dry stations for traders. Many buyers move away for superstitious reasons, so it is a good time to get a discount. Unless you buy a car on behalf of your company and you must buy at a certain time to get the benefits of depreciation, compare prices during these dry periods. However, you should avoid buying a car in December; waiting less than a month, your car will be a new year on paper.

Step Two: The Test Drive

  • Try yourself:

Never buy a car based on someone else’s opinion, even if that is the opinion of a global car expert. What is suitable for someone else may not be right for you Think of details like the convenience of driving mode and engine response. Driving test for one kilometer will not reveal anything: Conduct a comprehensive driving test in traffic, on open roads and in upper and lower hills. Even if you are not inclined towards other options in the market, you should drive anyway. Sometimes, best purchases can be found in less predictable locations.

  • The second opinion:

It may be helpful to take a friend or relative with you on a driving test, even if they have only basic knowledge of cars. They can provide unbiased comments or opinions that will help you make the right decision.

  • All in writing:

It is common practice for auto dealers to make a promise to the world (discounts, free accessories, etc.) but not to offer closing day. Make sure that each commitment is made by the written agent and posted on your paper.
