Job interviews are one of the trickiest scenarios to be in. One wrong move and the candidate can forget about getting that position or role they have been eyeing since applying for the job. However, at the end of this article we will teach you how to begin interviews on the right note.

Remember, the interview round is the main obstacle between the candidate’s dream job. Hence, candidate should come prepared. They will never know when the interviewer will catch them off guard and ask a question testing a candidate’s capabilities for the role. But, candidates can prepare for the common questions that will be asked and give comprehensive and confident answers.

The opening question, 99 out of 100 times, is for the candidate to introduce or describe themselves. Most of us have answered this question multiple times during school, college, internships, and at the start of our careers. However, it is still a question which leaves most candidates puzzled, regardless of the amount of job experience they have. Candidates are confused because they don’t know where to start from, how much should they speak and when and where should they end the answer.

You should ideally answer this question in under a minute. There is no prefect answer to this question but at the end of it, the interviewer should have an idea of who are you, what you do and why you do it. You should be confident while answering because hesitation is not the ideal way of answering this question.

Remember, you are selling yourself during an interview. So, tell them about your current designation, years of experience, educational qualification, area of specialization and skills possessed. Keep in mind the job description and in a subtle way include the skills that the job requires as well. Talking about your favorite movies, holiday destinations, cuisines, among others is not required. Small talk is also not required.

Make eye contact while answering this question. If it is a panel, look at everyone. Your body language should deliver the message that you in control of the situation. Don’t not fold your hands or slouch. Effective communication is the key here.
