Two provincial nomination draws from the province of Alberta have issued invitations to apply for provincial nomination for settling in the province of Alberta, which is home to the metropolitan cities of Calgary and Edmonton, as well as one of the largest national parks in the world, Banff National Park.

The draw which was conducted on 17th July, saw a total of 251 Notifications of Interest (NOI) to candidates in the Express Entry pool. The selected applicants were those who had a minimum score of 400 for their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

Again after one week on 24th July, Alberta issued 220 NOIS to candidates in the Express Entry pool. The minimum CRS set by the government of Alberta for this draw, was 303 CRS points. The Notifications of Interest were issued to the candidates as part of the Alberta Express Entry Stream. Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) allows the province to scan the federal Express Entry system for candidates who satisfy the stream’s eligibility requirements and issues NOIs to them to apply for nomination from the province.

Ever since, the Alberta Express Entry-Stream was opened, the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program has conducted 26 draws and has issued more than 5000 NOIs to individuals aspiring to settle in the province of Alberta.

If you wish to participate in this stream, as well as any of the Provincial Nominee Programs run by various provincial governments, then you will need to create an Express Entry profile for yourself. You do not need to have any job offer or prior work experience in Alberta to eligible for the stream. You will however, have to work in an occupation that will contribute to the economic development of the province. The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program gives priority to candidates who satisfy the following criteria

  1. Candidates having an offer of employment or prior work experience in the province
  2. Candidates who completed their post-secondary education in Canada and a valid job offer
  3. Candidates who have an immediate family member living in the province.

On the other hand, your chances of getting selected would be greatly diminished if you fall under the following categories

  1. The expiry date for the Express Entry is within three months.
  2. You work in an occupation that has been listed in the Ineligible Occupations list of the Alberta Opportunity Stream

Under the Alberta’s Express Entry Stream you are likely to be selected even if your CRS score is lower than the minimum CRS for other federal Express Entry draws. The lowest score for all the federal Express Entry draws so far for this year was 438, whereas the province of Alberta has selected candidates from the Express Entry pool, having CRS scores as low as 300 through its provincial nominee stream on at least four occasions in the current year, with three draws having a minimum CRS score of 301 and one more having a CRS score of 302. The latest draws are a positive sign for candidates who have a low CRS scores but are otherwise skilled.
