We always want to have a perfect smile and have healthy gums. What are the usual ways to make sure that our gums will be healthy? Well, there are a lot of ways to keep our teeth and gums healthy. The most common way is of course by brushing. You need to make sure that you brush your teeth properly every after a meal. The reason for this is to remove the tartar and plaque that causes cavities and bad breath. We don't want to be embarrassed especially when you are talking to someone; we always want to have fresh breath. Flossing is also one of the most effective ways to avoid gum disease. As we know brushing cannot remove the food particles that are stuck in between teeth. The most effective way to remove it is by flossing. You need to floss at least once or twice a day as this will guarantee that the plaques and tartar will not accumulate and will cause cavities later on. Aside from cavities, you will likely develop bad breath and increase your chances in getting a gum disease. Proper hygiene is just a portion of causing gum disease. Proper nutrition is also needed to make your gums and teeth healthy. According to research, if a person does not eat properly and healthily it is likely to affect the holistic health of a person and that includes your oral health. As you may notice, people who don't eat foods with vitamins and minerals are likely to develop weaker teeth which cause their teeth to become loose and easy to break. The most common foods and drinks that are usually recommended by your dentist to make your teeth stronger are dairy products like milk, cheese and etc. because it is high in calcium and it helps the enamel of the teeth to become stronger. Green leafy vegetables like spinach have a lot of fibre which enables us to chew. When you are chewing it activates our salivary gland which helps kills the bacteria in our mouth as well as neutralises the acids that also cause cavities if not properly balanced. If you are a person who doesn't like greens you can also try a bowl of beans as it has the same fibre content as your green leafy vegetables. Seafood also has a big factor in our diets. As we know fish have a lot of omega 3 and a huge source of vitamin D as well which helps in the absorption of calcium that makes our bones and teeth stronger. Aside from diet you also need to have physical exercise and exposure to sunlight. It is believed that you will absorb more calcium if vitamin D is paired which can be activated by sunlight. So having a short exercise outdoors won't hurt. Some people also love having their teeth whitened. There is nothing wrong with using teeth whitening products. The only thing that you need to consider before doing this treatment is to review the contents of the product. As you notice fake items are everywhere and we always love to try home remedies like baking soda and peroxide which are highly corrosive if not used cautiously. You need to make sure that the whitening products you are using contain calcium and fluoride to avoid damaging your enamel. Remember that your teeth only develop once and when it is damaged, it will not come cheap to restore and will not last forever as well. Gum disease can be avoided as long as we are following our dentist advice. You also need to make sure that you have a regular consultation with your Parramatta dentist every 6 months to monitor the status of your teeth. As much as possible we need to find ways to avoid expensive treatments and keep our teeth as natural as possible.
