Is Ketamine An Effective Solution To Cure Anxiety?
Posted: Aug 26, 2019
Anxiety is one of the most concerning health complications currently detected in the majority of people all around the world. People within the age of 21-35 are mostly suffering from high anxiety attacks and depression as well.
Over-thinking, not being able to express one's feelings and affecting one's health by taking too much stress leads to anxiety disorders as well as depression. In this competitive environment, students mostly are suffering from these two deadly mental issues. Mental health is not given that much importance anywhere in this world but it is high time that we do start paying attention to a person's wellbeing of the mental state. The mental condition of an individual influence their physical activities as well.
Anxiety leads people into a whole new individual where they tend to over think about the happening of a situation or its consequences and ultimately affect their overall functioning of the body as well.
Recently as a cure for anxiety, a drug has been gaining a lot of recognition in the medical industry named ketamine.
Ketamine seems to be creating quite an effect on the brains of people who are diagnosed with anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, etc. on an experiment it is found that ketamine has got multiple effects on the brain of the consumer and only a small portion of it causes some benefit to curing anxiety. It still not correctly known if ketamine treatment for anxiety actually helps in curing the whole disorder but if it does then the world is definitely going to get a great cure for depression and anxiety and all other mental disorders affecting so many individuals out there.
Ketamine was first used in the 1960s in the Vietnam war to cure pain for the solider fighting. Ketamine treatment works by taking over a certain chemical receptor and that can be an excellent thing to cure all the deadly mental issues people are struggling with on a daily basis, but if it crosses any line that can be quite a disaster for the proper functioning of the body as well.
On a research conducted with ketamine treatment effect on the brain, the doctors said that they don't know yet how much this drug actually tends to affect the brain. Although it is expected that the effect of the drug will remain for a good long week only. So there requires a more comprehensive way of treatment by concentrating only on the right frontal theta activity. Doctors are expecting this method might help them build up a better treatment option and administration of the drug in the brain as well thus bringing effective results in making a person cured of anxiety and depression.
When a person is diagnosed with any mental disorder such as anxiety, depression, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, etc. they are prescribed to have drugs such as SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) or SNRI (selective norepineprine reuptake inhibitor) if they do not respond to the treatment done by these drugs generally the dosages are increased or they are sent for trial cases. And it is quite unfortunate to know that around 30% - 40% of these patients will actually never get cured of the mental disorder they are suffering with. This is because their brain activities are not influenced by their effect, the impact created by these drugs are not being able to pin point the exact place where these disorders are emerging. Hence either they will live with these disorders throughout their life, sent to asylums or maybe put on trial cases where different drugs will be given to them and will be examined if anything is causing any good to their condition.
If ketamine successfully helps in creating an impact which these drugs are not being able to do, then the ketamine treatment for anxiety will be a revolutionary incident in the medical histories of this world. Providing a solution to the people who are suffering from these mental disorders is really necessary. Majority of the people suffering from anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, etc. become suicidal later on in life or start causing self-harm and even though they are capable of leading an absolutely normal life with some effective help, they will not be getting it due to the lack of treatment or drug options for them.
Doctors are hoping ketamine will ultimately evolve as an impactful solution for these individuals who are struggling every day to live a normal life and have a healthy mental condition as well. combined with the correct approach and research methods doctors are also hoping they will be able to bring the solution for anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder and all other deadly mental issues people are suffering with.
