A spanner is one of the most widely used tools. This is because it has a variety of application in day-to-day work. A spanner is used to turn a grip by moving it clockwise or anti-clockwise.

Spanners indeed have a universal application but one needs different types of spanner for different works. When looking for a spanner, one cannot get it only because it is a TATA product, one needs to check whether it suits the requirement or not.

Here are some of the most common types of spanners:

a) Combination spanner – This is the most popular type of spanner. It has 2 heads (open head and ring head), which are of the same size. The open head is used for final tightening as it is stronger than the ring head. The length of spanners differs. Lengthy spanners are quite useful when it comes to stiffer fastener as they offer greater torque even with a little amount of force.

b) Flare nut spanner – This is a single-piece tool which is commonly known as crow’s foot spanner or brake spanner. It also has 2 heads. Flare nut spanners are mainly used to fit fasteners that cannot be tightened or fit by ring spanners. Flare nut spanners are specifically designed to fit fasteners which are attached to tubes. This is why this tool is incredibly popular among plumbers.

c) Ratchet spanner – This type of spanner uses a special mechanism which enables the head to turn a fastener in a particular direction while remaining attached to the fastener head. Some spanners have arrows in the surface which helps to determine the direction where the nut will be turned.

d) Pin Spanner – This spanner works on a completely different mechanism. Instead of gripping the head of the fastener, it inserts metal pins in the fastener head. On turning the spanner, the moving pins cause the fastener to move in a particular direction. They are commonly known as pin spanners and come in different designs.

e) Box Spanner – This spanner is made from metal tubing. A box spanner encircles a fastener and after that makes contact with the fastener from different directions. A vast majority of box spanners have a hexagonal profile. Box spanners are commonly used in plumbing activities and to fix vehicle parts.

f) Scaffold Spanner – This spanner may be double-ended or single-ended with a box-shaped head. This tool is mostly used by builders to lift scaffolding in building sites. The box-shaped heads of this tool are very flexible and it helps in turning the fastener.

g) Insulated Spanner – It is mostly used for electrical fittings because it is electrically insulated. As a result, it reduces the risk of any electric shock. It has a plastic coating on the handle which prevents electricity from passing.

There are different types of spanners which have different usage. However, when one is looking for a spanner, quality should be given due importance. This is why one should invest in a TATA product. They are strong, durable, and adhere to all safety parameters.
