What is a Church Membership & How to Become a Church Member?

If you are thinking that what is the point of being a member of a church, it indicates that you don't know the importance of a church. Many of us think that we are already a Christian and visit a church often, why is it necessary to become a member of a church?

Church membership is a formal, covenantal relationship between an individual and a church. Jesus said, "you are like the salt of the earth. What if salt has lost its taste? How to restore saltiness?" The church represents God's standard of morality in the life of its members. A church is like one big family where every member plays an important role. A church is a place to worship God and grow your faith in God. It is a journey of faith. While joining as a member. there is a commitment that I am committed to the Church and the Church is committed to me. A church is not a place to refer to as "IT", but "US." All members are associated with one another.

Becoming a Member of a Church

Getting the membership of a church is not difficult. It doesn't require any kind of degree of knowledge. It needs your faith in Jesus. Whether you are a school student, an office worker or a housewife, you can join a church as an active member. A church may need three things-

Your Strong Relation with Jesus

The foremost step to becoming a member of a church needs your personal confidant of taking Christ as your Savior through faith. The Bible uses the phrase "faith in Jesus" which is all about belief in Jesus as Savior. When we have faith in God, we strongly believe in him and he grants his righteousness to us. Without having faith in God, we remain in sin.

By Baptism

Once you have faith in Jesus, the next step is baptism. If you are in a strong relationship with Jesus and have been baptized, only then can you move to the next step? Even Jesus Christ was himself baptized. He said it is a way to publicly profess that the church has now considered the baptized person as a Savior. Baptism is a way to devote yourself to the service of God. It is the first step of obedience which takes the person into spiritualism. Every church considers a person member after he/she is baptized.

If someone is already a member of a church and want to join another, they need to fill an application for membership of the following church. The clerk of the church sends a letter to your previous church stating your desire to join the membership of another church.

Talk to the Pastor

Express your desire in front of the pastor that you want to become a member. The Pastor will guide you at every step. From joining as a new member to learning more about the Bible, the pastor will teach you as a mentor.
