KP Fabrication & Welding was formed in 1996, with owners Phil Jones and Kevin Hilgert combining more than 40 years experience in aluminium and steel fabrication for the transport industry.

Phil started in the industry in 1977, undertaking a boilermaker apprenticeship in his hometown of Kellerberrin. After completing his apprenticeship in the WA Wheatbelt town, Phil moved to Perth and found a job working for Kevin.

After working for Kevin for a few years, Phil expanded his fabrication and welding experience by moving to the northwest to work in the mining industry and then returned to Perth to work in boatyards.

16 years after the pair first worked together, Phil and Kevin were completing a shared contracting job when the pair "got chatting". Hours later the pair had formed the bare shell concept of what is today KP Fabrication & Welding Pty Ltd. on nothing more than a handshake and good will. As fate would have it, KP Fabrication & Welding is now considered Perth’s premier alloy and metals workshop serving the transport industry with an arsenal of experience, knowledge and the very latest equipment.

Expansion has seen the business grow from a 100sqm workshop with enough work for the original owners to an 800sqm workshop and a staff of 20 in less than a decade. The business has grown to the point where Phil no longer has to work ‘on the tools’. Over the years, he has been able to concentrate on the running of the business, taking care of KP’s day to day clientele and logistical considerations.
