Given its connotations with eternal love and a life spent together, most couples obviously hope the act of getting engaged and specifically the proposal ceremony will be an unforgettably romantic moment. And for the most part, grooms (and some brides) tend to do their best to make sure that is the case.

Fortunately for couples in this sort of situation, our wonderful planet tends to yield quite a few locations where the objective of making the engagement ceremony as romantic as possible is easily achieved. Whether their significant other has a weak spot for tropical scenery, prefers something a little more urban or is truly happy out in the countryside, there is bound to be a spot on our green Earth where they can create unforgettable moments of true romance for getting engaged. Below are just a few of the locations which gather the highest consensus in this regard.

Tropical Heat

Usually among the first destinations to come to mind when one imagines an idyllic holiday, tropical islands are also very conducive to romantic getaways and have long been associated with them. And while places like St Lucia, Hawaii or the Bahamas tend to be more popular with honeymooners, they can also constitute excellent locations for getting engaged, with their temperate climate, luxuriant scenery and clear blue waters. A bride or groom looking to impress his or her significant other with scenery to match their grand statement could therefore do worse than to pick one of these islands as the setting for their ring presentation moment.

European Capitals

Most of the main European cities present an excellent backdrop for getting engaged; one need think no further than Paris, Venice or London to acknowledge the truth in this statement. The French capital in particular is world-renowned for its appeal to lovers, who can pop the question on the Pont Neuf or at the top of the Eiffel Tower. Venice, with its meandering canals and singing gondoliers, is another favourite spot for this type of event among European brides and grooms. Outside Europe, certain parts of cities like New York or Rio are also conducive to romantic engagement proposals and may appeal to couples wanting a unique setting for their ring presentation ceremony.

Africa

Yes, Africa. While generally overlooked by the majority of Western tourists, the ‘dark continent’ can be an excellent place in which to propose to your other half. Presenting the ring during a safari in Kenya, for example, can create an extremely romantic and memorable moment for getting engaged and could well earn the brides and grooms who attempt it the kind of reply they hope to hear.

At the end of the day, however, the choice of backdrop against which to get engaged is really up to the preferences of the bride or groom. Hopefully, they will know their partner well enough to know what would constitute an unforgettable experience for him or her and work along those lines.
