Torrevieja Would Be A Great Place To Which To Retire
Posted: Sep 27, 2019
The city of Torrevieja is situated in Alicante on the Mediterranean coast and is surrounded by two huge saltwater lagoons which are famous for their flamingos. It has a population of 81,000 and is 47 kms from Alicante, the capital of the province, and about 35 kms from Alicante and San Javier airports. The town has about 20 kms of coastline and has five large beaches.
The town has a sunny climate for most of the year, and the coldest months are January and February when the temperature is between 12°C and 16°C. July and August are hot and can get up to 35°C, with October to December being mild and from 21°C to about 27°C.
Torrevieja has five major beaches which are Los Locos, La Mata, Cabo Cervera, Del Cura, and Los Naufragos. They have fine white sand and the two best of them are close to the town – Los Locos and Playa Del Cura. There are lots of bars and restaurants along the front of Los Locos beach and many more in the back streets. There are also butchers, fishmongers, bakeries, supermarkets, and spit-roasted chicken shops.
Playa Del Cura is only a five-minute walk from Los Locos and it has a totally pedestrianised promenade with restaurants where you can sit and enjoy a meal while watching the kids play on the beach at the same time. Most of the restaurants in Torrevieja are child friendly.
All of Torrevieja’s beaches are easy to access and provide several services such as showers, toilets, children’s play areas, security, lifeguards, and special spaces in which to relax. In between the beaches are coves where you can get away from the crowds and swim and dive in a more peaceful environment.
All the way along the seafront you are in easy walking distance of the town centre with bars and restaurants of all types, and there are street markets, a resident fun fair, a marina and harbour, and a long new promenade. The main meeting place in the town is at the central fountain overlooking the marina where you can sit and enjoy a cocktail or three when the sun goes down.
There is also a street market every evening which sells a variety of arts and crafts, leather goods, jewellery, clothing, and souvenirs, and in the main holiday season there are also often street artists and performers.
Torrevieja offers a lot of shopping opportunities. There are at least 2,500 shops and stores covering fashion, furniture, accessories, interior design, textiles, electronics, leatherware, gifts and souvenirs of course, and more. Opening times range between 10.00 am and 10.00 pm Monday to Saturday, although some stores are open seven days. Near to the Carrefour and Aqua Park is the Habanaras shopping complex.
There is also Zenia Boulevard which opened in 2012 and is the largest shopping mall in the Alicante province. The hypermarket Alcampo has a petrol station and it also has an online service at the same prices as in the hypermarket itself. There is a home delivery service, or you can pick your order up when the staff will pack and load your goods into your car in five minutes.
There are lots of festivals and processions in Torrevieja, one of the largest of which is the Habaneras International Music contest in August. This goes on for a week, and if you want to go you need to book a hotel well in advance.
Torrevieja also has a lot of nightlife going on. Just in the area of La Punta there are at least 70 disco-pubs opening from 9.00 pm to 3.30 am and many others that have an Irish atmosphere.
The town has so much going for it that it would make great retirement home. You could look for an apartment for sale in Torrevieja, or perhaps you would prefer a villa with its’ own pool. The town would also be good for an investment property. It has a huge number of visitors who are looking for holiday apartments, so you might consider an investment property that you can use yourself and will usually be fully booked for visitors for the rest of the year, so your return on investment will be very good indeed.
