The petitions challenging the decision to cut trees to build a metro car shed in Aarey Colony were rejected by the Bombay High Court. According to reports, 450 trees were cut by the electric machine by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) within two hours after nine o’clock at night after the High Court’s decision came on Friday. Reports said that within 24 hours from Friday, around 2,134 pedigrees of the colony have been cut. A special bench was constituted for hearing by the apex court, taking the letter written in protest against the cutting of trees on behalf of students studying law.

The Maharashtra government’s move is being strongly opposed across the country, including Mumbai. It is said that MMRCL had sent a team of 70 people to carry out the action of cutting 2,646 trees for the construction of Metro car shed, which people started opposing. Amid the protests, section 144 was imposed in the colony and its surrounding areas on Saturday morning and 29 people were arrested.
