Makeup is a whole new world of craziness, diversity, acceptance, art and what not! People love to wear makeup in everyday life and on special occasions as well. If we talk about the history of makeup, the world was a dark place, it still is but in the past, makeup was considered to be something for prostitutes only. In the Victorian Era, makeup was mostly prohibited to use for normal people. But after that, the world has changed and a little bit of acceptance and revolution has been brought into the thoughts of people.

There was a time when makeup was considered to a feminine trait and it was only for women. But the meaning of makeup varies from person to person. One might feel empowered and another might feel sensitive and the list can go on. But this isn’t how the world has been like, it has changed from being extremely patriarchal to moderately patriarchal. And a lot has gone into this fight, beyond the imagination of anyone who is too close to notice. Makeup has changed the way people look at each other and it has shaped the way minds processed.

The stereotype of associating makeup to being a sign of femininity has changed and gotten hype from 2018. Gender cannot gauge the way someone feels about makeup or generally anything; this is what LGBTQ movement fought for. In all honesty, the beauty influencers on YouTube are part of the reason why society has become more open to men wearing makeup. In the past few years, even the makeup brands have started to do gender distinct campaigns and a lot of male makeup artists have become the face of brands; Manny Gutierrez was the first male face of Maybelline.

All of it makes it evident that colors, religion, love, and makeup see no gender. All it sees is the love for art and goodness of a heart. This is how the entire cosmetic world has shaped and today, male makeup artists are more creative than the female gurus. Some of the men who changed the way cosmetics have been are:

Jeffree Star

Patrick Starrr

James Charles

Ryan Potter

Wesley Benjamin Carter

Zachary Edward

Manny MUA

Jack Emory

These male artists also played a part in changing the trends of makeup and now just that, men who are enthusiastic about makeup are introducing their own makeup lines along with collaborations with popular brands. Because makeup to everybody is a different thing, people have a different outlook towards everything. The biggest example of how the entire process of makeup goes around in the cosmetic world is "The Secret World of Jeffree Star", a series by Shane Dawson and Jeffree Star in which they show everything from the product manufacturing to packaging.

There is a stereotype associated with the cosmetic packaging that it has to be really focused towards the femininity but it has definitely changed because literally, creative male influencers are taking over the cosmetic world! Some of the best cosmetics have been manufactured by male makeup artists and this has changed how the packaging has been in the cosmetic world.

Now, we shall how the cosmetic packaging has changed with respect to customization and gender distinction:

Color

For a start, pink is no longer a girly color. Have we not seen the love for pink by Jeffree Star? Color plays a great role in packaging of cosmetic products but now people love every color because the richness and deepness of the shade is what people love. Male no longer prefer dull colors and females are no longer obsessed with just pink.

Box Style

The trends of simplicity and casualness are long gone. The days when male makeup was supposed to be neutral and square are no longer here. People now embrace it all and this is why Custom Cosmetic Boxes are in trend because one can play with all the shapes and sizes!

Design

The vibrancy and craziness is what people prefer now. You know how the trends of being extra are introduced? Because everyone loves being too much in makeup now. Here we can take the example of Jeffree Star Cosmetics or Patrick Starr’s Spring Collection with MAC; everything screams color.

All of that is mentioned above makes it evident that a gender cannot control how the packaging should be. Men and women are equal at all grounds and something as artsy as makeup cannot control the way how one should feel about it. Cosmetic packaging is all about embracing inner creativity and doing whatever makes the product stand out. Ever since the brands have started to include men, their promotions and branding styles have gotten better. This shows that cosmetic packaging cannot be gauged with gender but love for makeup only. Moreover, better branding and promotions are done only when the packaging is regardless of everything. Not to forget the fact that ever since the cosmetic world has become diverse, the sales of brands have also increased so for any new brand to step into this industry, they shall incorporate every color, gender and style.
