Buenos Aires is the charming Argentinian capital with something special for all types of traveller. There are lots of trendy neighbourhoods in this city, many of which are considered destinations in themselves and home to their own unique attractions including street murals, stunning architecture, museums and plenty of shopping, dining and leisure options. With so many neighbourhoods it’s hard to know where you should base your stay in Buenos Aires, so we’ve put together a guide to the city’s best spots with a little overview on each of them.

La Boca

La Boca is Buenos Aires’ most colourful neighbourhood, set beside the Riachuelo River with bustling cobblestone streets, buskers, tango dancers, street art and restored houses painted in pretty bright colours. La Boca is most famous for being home to the Estadio Alberto J. Armando stadium for the Boca Juniors and it also boasts some fine cultural centres, including the Museo Benito Quinquela Martin and the Fundación Proa. Tourists visiting La Boca are advised not to walk the streets at night; instead they are recommended to take a taxi to and from their hotel.

Palermo

Palermo Viejo is Buenos Aires’ largest and most trendy region; here you can admire old houses, cobblestone streets and tree-lined paths, as well as getting a taste of contemporary appeal at new boutique hotels, clubs and bars. Palermo is also very green with beautiful parks, lakes and woodlands, offering a peaceful oasis from the bustling downtown. Brightsun Travel has a great selection of Buenos Aires flight offers, so why not book yourself a break here and choose a nice hotel in Palermo to base your stay?

San Telmo

The colonial neighbourhood of San Telmo is one of Buenos Aires’ oldest regions, ideal for an authentic feel of the city. Explore ancient streets lined with pretty lighting, family-run steakhouse restaurants, preserved ancient buildings, independent galleries and antique shops. A highlight is the San Telmo Market - an excellent gastronomic hub with stalls selling all sorts of local and international delicacies. San Telmo is a lot safer than it used to be; however, it is still advised that you are vigilant here after dark.

Recoleta

Why not base your stay in Recoleta, Buenos Aires’ most affluent neighbourhood which boasts some of the city’s top hotels, shopping malls, boutiques and bars. This beautiful Parisian-style region is home to some cultural places of interest including the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes as well as the Recoleta Cemetery which is filled with tombs, mausoleums and the grave of iconic Argentinian actress Eva Perón. Recoleta isn’t the most accessible spot by public transport, but if you base your stay here and want to see these sights then it’s ideal.

Puerto Madero

Puerto Madero is a contemporary Buenos Aires neighbourhood set along the banks of the Río de la Plata River. Here there are former industrial buildings that have been converted into plush hotels, restaurants, bars and offices, dazzling skyscraper buildings, serene riverside walkways and al fresco cafes. Must-sees are the Puente de la Mujer - aka Women’s Bridge which is believed to represent a couple tango dancing and the Reserva Ecológica Costanera Sur, Buenos Aires’ largest green space spread over 350 hectares with a great amount of biodiversity.
