Dyeing is a process of adding color to different textile products such as fiber, yarns and fabric. The effects of color dyes on a cloth can be obtained from a solution that contains dye and certain chemical materials. Textile Dyes can be classified as Natural And Man-Made Dyes.

Difference Between Natural Dyes And Man Made Dyes

Natural Dyes are extracted from animals and plants and are generally non toxic in nature. On the contrary, artificial dye is used to achieve a broader range of colors and also renders a more stable dye on a cloth. The use of a particular type of dye usually depends on the yarn and the type of cloth as well. For Example: Acrylic Fiber is generally dyed with basic dyes, while nylon and protein fibers are dyed with acid dyes.

Different Types Of Textile Dyes

  • Digital Printing Textile Dyes: Digital Printing Textile Dyes use small inkjet nozzles that are controlled by a computerized system. This process involves direct printing of textile dye onto a pre-treated fabric, where various patterns maybe created using computer software that control the functioning of the machine. The only requirement in a Digital Textile printing is that the fabric must be pre-treated to hold the ink. One of the most common examples of a Digital Printing Textile Dye includes Acid Dye. Acid dye is used to color wood, silk, etc.
  • Leather Dyes: Modern Tanneries make use of Leather Dyes. Each Leather Dye produces a different color and desired effect on leather. Dyes in this industry include acid etching, reactive, basic dyes etc.
  • Optical Brighteners: Also known as optical agents, these are dyes attributed with the property of absorbing ultraviolet rays, electromagnetic spectrum, etc. Being toxic in nature, this dye is not suitable for use with water.
  • Sublimation Dyes: These dyes make use of different dying methods such as inkjet inks, thermal transfer ribbon and laser toner. Sublimation dye is applied on a fabric through a process known as heat transfer.
