Industries, without the involvement of metals is hardly imaginable. Be it machinery installments, infrastructure, concrete support, each and every sector involves the use of metals be it extensively or intensively.

Infrastructures like industries, transportation facilities, manufacturing sectors, agriculture, educational facilities and many more have huge involvement of metals and the most crucial problem they face is of corrosion. Heavy Industry metals are prone to the attacks of corrosive substances like acids, bases, oxidizing agents, caustic effects, etc., which react with the metal electrons, decreasing its metallic property and resulting in total structural damage. In fact, in the coastal areas of India, the monetary loss caused by corrosion per year is in the range of thousands of crores. Not only monetary loss, this problem is even contributing to pollution degrading the environmental balance.

Removing the metal from the corrosive agents or using an alloy instead of the required metal are neither viable nor cost-effective. Chemically treating a metal with inhibitors can aid in reducing the rate of corrosion. This mechanism is viable as well as economical. The chemicals can be used in pre-treatment process where they are sprayed or directly applied on the metal, forming a thin protective layer over the metal and disallowing any kind of reaction when any corrodant comes in contact with the same. The inhibitor makes the metal surface inert to any kind of oxidizing or reducing reaction, providing full proof corrosion protection to outer metal surface. Even the inaccessible internals can be protected by conjunction of the inhibiting fluid either in batch or in continuous process depending upon the severity. Sometimes the vapor phase inhibitors can also be used which have relatively larger vapor pressure, generally volatile in nature which allows the inhibitor to penetrate to inaccessible surfaces within the structure. Using these inhibitors saves time as well as costing improving the overall efficiency of the industries.

Corrosion Inhibitors can be categorized into two parts depending upon its composition and characteristics:

  • Inorganic
  • Organic

Inorganic Corrosion Inhibitors can be further categorized in to two parts based on the type of reaction viz. Cathodic and Anodic. Cathodic Inhibitors shows inhibiting property by controlling the accumulation of reducing agents to the surface of the metal whereas Anodic inhibitors forms an inhibiting barrier on the surface, making the region inert and reduce the corrosive activities. Organic Corrosion Inhibitors follows the adsorption mechanism in which a thin protective film covers the surface and molecules of the chemical gets adsorbed on the same preventing any kind of reaction with corrosive agents.

Adsorption is a process by which atom or ions of a matter gets adhered into the surface forming an adsorptive film or protective film

PROTODIN range of chemicals are a class of hydrotesting corrosion inhibitor for high stress conditions in brine, saline or sea water during storage and flush out of metallic vessels, tanks, equipment and pipelines. Its unique formulation makes it completely safe for aquatic and marine discharge. Its unique formulation prevents brine corrosion by creating a thin ionic charge, sometimes mono-molecular layer on the metal surface preventing the formation of hydrochloric and hydrobromic acid.

Chemtex Speciality Limited has been manufacturing and supplying a wide range of corrosion inhibitors with the brand name PROTODIN that meets the standard requirement as a corrosion inhibitor for various applications in industrial sectors like oilfield, automobile, iron and steel, cement and ceramics, brewery and other process industries.
