ABOUT PMP Certification
PMP certification stands for Project Management Professional Certification. It is a certification identified worldwide by the project managers. It is a gold standard for project management professionals. The course content is in the PMBOK guide, 6th edition. Since August 2019, there are 932,720 PMP certified individuals and 300 chartered chapters across the globe.
The performance is judged on five performance domains:
Initiating the project
Planning the project
Executing the project
Monitoring & controlling the project
Closing the project
EXAM PATTERN AND SYLLABUS
The exam contains a total number of 200 questions. The question specifications are of PMBOK and PMP Code of Ethics as ethics is a major part of professionalism.
No references are allowed to be taken to the examination. Out of two hundred questions, twenty-five are from the sample materials to decrease the level of difficulty and these questions are mixed up with the other 175 questions. The students are graded on the basis of these 175 questions. The parentheses right beside the question tells the percentage that each question carries.
As for the syllabus, the PMP exam judges a candidate on ten fields:
Project integrating management
Project scope management
Project time management
Project cost management
Project quality management
Project human resource management
Project communication management
Project procurement management
Project risk management
Project stakeholder management
It follows the same syllabus as the Project Management Institute.
New exam pattern of PMP:
The pattern which is mentioned above is active until December 15, 2019. After this date, the pattern will change. It will focus on three areas rather than five.
Those are:
people
process
business environment
The weightage for each is:
people: 42%
process: 50%
business environment: 8%
The reason behind this change is that as per the current research of PMI, the roles of project managers are changing so it also modified the pattern of the exam accordingly.
Difference between the new and old exam:
The new exam pattern has a term called enablers which is basically regarding examples associated with tasks.
EXAMINATION PROCESS
The examination is available in two ways, i.e. paper-based and computer-based.
The answers are in the form of MCQ with single-option correct formats. The results of the computer-based are released as soon as you finish the test, whereas the paper-based exam results are declared within four weeks.
