Work Profile of External Affairs Assistant post under SSC CGL

Every year, SSC conducts graduate level exams with CGL and the selected candidates are posted in a variety of ministries of Government of –India under Group B and C cadre.

Place of Posting

The place of posting is primarily dependant of candidate’s choice. It will be his decision to be either posted in New Delhi or in foreign offices. The candidate can spend his entire life in the regional passport office, if he can convince the concerned authority.

Besides this aspect, if a candidate prefers to work in abroad under MEA, then the following places, salary and perks can be credited to them.

The Government offices in foreign countries are divided into five categories and these categories are A+, A, B, C and Hard C.

In Super A category, the Government offices will be in cities like New York, Toronto, Washington DC, Wellington, Geneva etc.

In A Category, the Government offices will be in cities like London, Paris, Madrid, Mexico City, Tokyo, Berlin & etc.

In B Category, the Government offices will be in cities like Chicago, Warsaw, Zurich, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Vienna, Munich, Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland, Stockholm, Moscow etc.

In C category, the Government offices will be in cities like Thimpu, Kuwait, Manila, Bangkok, Hawana etc.

In Hard C Category, the Government offices will be in cities like Kabul, Damascus, Kandhar, Mazar-e-Sarif etc.

Medical

The candidates settling in abroad will be getting elite medical services for themselves and their family members. In case of medical emergency, they will be treated by best of hospitals with best of medical facilities.

Salary

If a candidate is posted in New Delhi then he will get a salary of Rs 37000/- per month exclusive of 7th pay commission. In case of foreign posting, it will transform into $1800-$2900 as a foreign Allowance + Current Basic salary + $400-$600 as other allowance. (Ssc Cgl Exam )

Promotional Avenues

The promotions are awarded in the following trend.

1. If a candidate clear departmental exam then he gets promoted to Assistant to Administrative Officer in 5 years or else it will take 8 years.
2. In next 8 years, he gets promoted from Administrative Officer to Under Secretary.
3. In next 8 years, he gets promoted from Under Secretary to Deputy Secretary.
4. In next 6 years, he gets promoted from Deputy Secretary to Director.
5. In next 4 years, he gets promoted from Director to Joint Secretary.

If you are posted in small countries then Director will be posted as "Consulate General of India" which is an Ambassador level post. Likewise, if you become an Under Secretary then you will get the IFS cadre. Subsequently, you can consider yourself equivalent to an IFS Officer. It happens in rare case as it totally depends on candidate’s skills and abilities. While posted as an IFS Officer, you are entitled to keep a servant that can be hired from India or from any other country. The incurred expenses which may include air fare, medical expenditure will be levied on by Indian Government.

Duration of posting

If a candidate is posted in any of Hard C countries for 1.5 to 2 years and 3 years in any other country then he can return to headquarters or can get reposting in any other foreign country of his choice. The candidate is allowed to take around 1500kg weight abroad with them and it includes car, motorcycle etc.

Accommodation

The candidates will be enjoying the lavish accommodation facilities of 3 BHK fully furnished flat provided by Government of India. The flat will have all the basic amenities like A.C., Soda, refrigerator, Bed, etc. In foreign posting, the candidate will be staying in 5 star hotels, if he is not provided with accommodation in that country.
