Being an effective communicator requires much time and practice, and I can say for sure that this class has benefitted me in organizing and managing both of these elements. Firstly, I got a chance to learn a lot of theoretical information and was able to improve my knowledge of the various spheres. Secondly, I was able to use the acquired experience in practice. Obviously, there are still many gaps which I need to improve and practice constantly, but even now, I have to admit that my skills have become much more useful and efficient.

This class provided me with significant information I have not learned before. For instance, while reading chapters six and seven, I found out many interesting facts about feminism and Marxism. I also learned a lot about the history of communication. This knowledge proved to be very valuable to me because I obtained the needed skills to evaluate the information I receive and apply critical skills to it. Hence, the theory turned out to be an important asset for practice.

One of my favorite parts was the learning process connected to Chapter Two when we were reading about rhetoric and different ways to appeal to the audience. For me, this topic was extremely helpful in terms of becoming a better communicator. I acquired knowledge about different styles of communicating my ideas to the people, and I also focused on other aspects that make the speech memorable and more effective. For instance, I learned about disposition and began paying more attention to message delivery which changed the overall approach I had toward presenting speeches.

Before starting the course, I have had a rather limited understanding of the narratives and persuasion in speeches and was skeptical about people giving them. For a long time, I have been thinking that speeches were just populist pieces people used in order to achieve their goals. The class showed me I was wrong because a speech and communicator, in general, could be an effective tool for change. I am especially delighted with the different narration techniques that we covered in the third chapter. It was good not only as a theoretical base, but also it provided me with a clear understanding of how to structure and present a particular message. Previously, I had many ideas that I considered very effective and interesting to spread. However, I had a hard time presenting them in an effective way so other people would understand me, and I also failed when it came to providing original approaches towards my message perception. Therefore, the chapter outcomes turned out as very positive to me. I learned that I could use the dramatic techniques in my practice, and it became a positive improvement for my further communication.

A very big advantage of this course is that it helped me to motivate myself to become a better communicator. As soon as I realized the importance of motive, I learned to encourage myself and practice skills all the time. I was able to overcome some of my fears and develop a new attitude toward communication and speeches. I also strengthened the critical thinking skills because now I can apply the theoretical knowledge to the speeches and communication. In addition, I have also increased my experience which encouraged my confidence and persuasion. After learning this course, I can apply many different techniques which improve my communication and make me feel much more comfortable doing it. I am grateful to the class for this profound knowledge because the reading materials have been very helpful and provided me with the necessary information and help I needed.
