Seeing how every second people are running blogs, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and make one myself since I had a flair for writing and lots of thoughts swirling in my mind. Little did I know that setting up one was not the difficult part, the onerous task was bringing the traffic. Imagine writing blog posts that nobody reads. Heartbreaking, right? It is not because they are not good enough, it is because people don’t know about them.

So, I started promoting them on Facebook and Instagram, and then I came across this hidden treasure called Pinterest. I will be honest. Pinterest wasn’t the first platform that came to my mind when I was thinking of a strategy to make my blog known to the world, because let’s be honest Pinterest always conjures up an image of women pinning clothing and diet pictures. But that’s not all there is. This hidden gem has more than 300 million followers that turn to it for ideas.

Before putting my bets on the platform, I did a bit of research and studied how others are doing it and I am going to share my findings with you.

1. Set up a Business Account

Have a personal account? Perfect! Convert it into a business account immediately so you can get more features and analytics as well.

2. Use high-quality pictures

Once you have made the account, you cannot put up pictures just for the sake of it. The entire point of this platform is that it is visual-based, and if you are not putting visually appealing pictures there then you are just wasting your time. This is very useful for brands that are trying to sell their merchandise online.

Bloggers have a bit different approach. Bloggers usually put attractive images along with their post title so that people know that they need to click on the link to get more information. Here is how Rachel is managing her The Confused Millennial blog.

3. Optimize your images

Selecting the best picture for your pin is one part. The next step is to optimize it so that people pin more of your pictures; hence, get more views. The first step is to write a good description of the post. Pin description is just like writing an excerpt for your blog; you need to highlight what benefits people will get by reading this blog. Try to add a call-to-action in your pin’s description so that people can immediately gravitate to your blog.

4. Contribute to group posts

The biggest challenge on Pinterest is to get followers that you can direct to your blog, and this doesn’t happen overnight. A useful tip is to contribute to group posts. Group boards are similar to individual boards with a theme. The only difference is that they have multiple contributors. When you pin your posts to a group board, you make it visible to more eyes.

You can find relevant Pinterest boards by checking the accounts of people that follow you, or accounts of those you want to follow, then see which group boards they belong to. Once you find a group board you like, you need to get invited by the owner. There will be instructions to do that or you can just send a request for an invitation.

5. Add Pin It button on your blog

The availability of high-speed internet and low-end smartphones has increased mobile traffic. So, keep in mind that most of the people who are visiting your website, log in from their phones. Therefore, make sure that all social buttons are present on your blog so people can share it on the go.

Pinterest works a bit differently than other social media platforms. To add Pinterest, first, sign-in on the platform, then go to the About tab, select Pin It from the drop-down button, and then add the URL for your blog post with the image to be pinned.

Make your blog famous

If you are looking for new ways to make your blog famous, then you should definitely give Pinterest a try. It is one of the most underrated platforms out there and it will really help your blog a lot.
