PTE examination is a standardized examination for evaluating your proficiency level in English. The PTE exam consists of 4 sections: Reading, Speaking, Listening and Writing. Every section has several sub-tasks. Fill in the blanks is a sub-task of the Reading and Listening section. You will find the same format on the PTE practice test.

What is a Collocation?

Collocation is a group of two or more words that typically go with one another. These words are used in our daily life.

Example: Make coffee, Have breakfast, etc.

They are not just a connection of adjective with a noun but is any form of a combination of words. Different forms of collocation are:

  • Verb + Noun (Lead a seminar)
  • Adverb + Adjective (Ridiculously easy)
  • Adverb + Verb (Badly damaged)
  • Noun + Noun (Single entry)
  • Adjective + Noun (Long time)

What is an Academic Collocation List?

An Academic Collocation List (ACL) consists of 2469 lexical collocations that are frequently used and have relevance in Academic English. This list was prepared from the Pearson International Corpus of Academic English (PICAE).

The process of deriving this list included analysis of corpus, quantitative and qualitative refining of the list, review from an expert and proper structuring. This ACL helps the learners to increase their proficiency level in English. Try to find out if this list helps you to answer the sub-task on your PTE practice test.
