How to Choose The Best Solar Panel Manufacturers

Posted: Nov 29, 2019
For a solar inverter to function, they must be connected to solar panels. Unfortunately, differentiating between solar panels on merely their appearance can be very difficult. In many cases, there is nothing obvious to distinguish between low and high quality products. To top this, most solar companies and installers only have glossy brochures that add to the buyer’s confusion. Here are a few tips to help you pick the best solar panel manufacturers.
Do no depend solely on Tier 1 solar panel rating
Tier 1 solar panels are the top rated solar panel manufacturers in terms of financial stability. However, it does not reflect to be the best in terms of quality or performance. Thus, it does not guarantee that the panel will be free from defects. Thus, when you’re looking for solar panels, you must also pay attention to the panel manufacturer’s history and reputation. Trusted solar panel brands offer extended warranties because they use high quality materials that degrade at a much slower rate than other panels made with low quality materials.
Pick panels with extended warranties
Looking at a solar panel in the store will not tell you much about its quality. It is only when the panels are exposed to sun light after installation that small faults and hot spots will come to sight. These can be assessed only by using specialized equipment and they are discoverable only after a few years. Thus when you select a solar panel, you must look for one with a warranty of at least 5 years, a good history of after-sales customer service and a reliable reputation.
Solar Panel Warranty has two parts
Most good branded solar panels have a 10 year manufacturer’s warranty or product warranty and 25 year performance warranty.
The product warranty protects customers from manufacturing and component defects and material failures. If the panels fail during the product warranty period, the manufacturer must replace or offer a refund for the solar panels. Many manufacturers offer not just a 10 year warranty but extend this warranty to a 12,15,20 or 25 years.
Performance warranty is also known as power output warranty. This ensures that the panel produces more than the minimal power output after a specific time period. This is important as the power output of a solar panel decreases with time. After installation, the exposure to sunlight, UV radiation and high temperatures reduce the panel’s power outputs. In the first year, the power output reduces by 2-3%. For the next 24 years, this rate falls to 0.5-0.7% each year. The industry standard for solar panel power output after 25 years is 80-83%.
The technology used to manufacture solar panels is constantly evolving. Once installed a solar panel should last for at least 25 years. Hence, it is important to invest in solar panels with high quality and a high performance warranty. Thus, pay as much attention to the solar panel manufacturers and their reputation as you will to the solar panel price, quality, etc.
