According to Shiv Shankar, what goes in the favor of the company in the midst of all disheartening events is the fact that 60% of the existing users of Yahoo Mail are located outside U.S. He is the director of product management in Yahoo Mail and feels that all the new features announced for the revamped mobile version of Yahoo Mail are targeted towards these customers. The main objective of all the new features and policies announced by Yahoo Mail support will be towards retaining these customers of the company.

Yahoo Mail is confident that it will be able to not just retain this massive customer base in emerging markets but also increase their numbers.

Shiv Shankar added that Yahoo Mail is working hard to provide more value to these customers while making them feel empowered through new features. For example, Yahoo Mail is providing support to 7 languages in India. These include Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.

Talking about the new features, Shankar said that these features are people centric and they can be customized according to the requirements of the user. Tabs are divided into three categories namely people, travel, and receipts. There is also a drag and drop interface for the customers involving fun animations. Yahoo Mail has also given the ability to search using filters to get down to the desired information quickly.

Finally, the feature that Yahoo Mail support is banking heavily upon is storage facility of 1 TB for the customers. This is like having storage space enough to keep around 250 movies. This is much more than 15 GB storage being offered by Gmail.
