Your Personality Reflects What You Eat
Posted: Dec 09, 2019
Yes, we’re exactly what we put into our bodies.
Other aspects of living like work, sleep and play to shape our wellness. But clearly food is the fuel and THE deciding factor of how good we feel physically.
The dangers of commercial foodBad Cholesterol – A really easy way to understand this is to simply look at a blood sample if you ever get the chance. After eating any fast-food, if you happen to compare your blood plasma to a sample taken before eating; the difference in the appearance of the two samples is clear. The high amount of unhealthy grease in the burger turns the otherwise-clear straw color of plasma to dark and cloudy.
Cholesterol is necessary for the proper functioning of the human body. But too much cholesterol in the bloodstream increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. According to Abs, the excess cholesterol found in any kind of food that is not cooked at home makes it harder for blood to flow. It builds up into fatty deposits in our blood vessels.
Refined Carbs – Any food that is not cooked at home also tends to be sugary and burdened heavily with refined carbohydrates. These contribute directly to Type 2 diabetes. Diabetes is a condition of the body when it is no longer able to control blood sugar levels. The pancreas gland stops producing enough insulin, the body’s cells become resistant to insulin, and sometimes both these things happen at the same time. Insulin is a hormone that is responsible for the transfer of sugar from the blood to the cells of the body. When the immune system attacks the pancreas, hurting its ability to produce insulin, it is called Type 1 Diabetes. This is relatively rare and happens mainly due to genetic reasons. But Type 2 Diabetes, where the cells stop reacting to insulin, or insulin production stops, or both; is caused mainly by diet and lifestyle reasons.
Refined carbs are simple carbs that have been stripped of most of their nutrients and fiber. They cause insulin resistance. In addition to Type 2 Diabetes, they are also linked to obesity and heart disease. We ingest refined carbs when we indulge in junk/fast food. Most food that is not home-cooked either fully or partially contains white flour, white bread, white rice, and added sugars. These, along with pastries, sodas, sweets, and breakfast cereals inhibit insulin production and spike up blood sugar levels. The only way to avoid refined carbs is to cook at home with whole grains. The bran and germ of whole grains are intact and they contain fiber and important nutrients.
Added Sugars – Natural sugar doesn’t have the same effect on the human body as added sugar. Natural sugars are sugars that exist in fruits and vegetables naturally. "Added" sugars are added during manufacturing or processing. Added or Natural, when we eat more sugar than our bodies can use for energy, the excess sugar is converted into fatty acids and stored as body fat. Fruits and vegetables contain far less sugar by weight than processed foods – so eating them to subsist on natural sugar is much safer than overloading on added sugar by eating processed foods.
Organic is the way to go!Those who have cases of high cholesterol or high blood pressure in their family should be extra careful about their eating habits. Vegetarians are regarded as healthier than non-vegetarians. They’re believed to live longer.
"Organic" does not denote "Vegan" or 100% plant-based. By "Organic," we mean food ingredients that are free of artificial flavors, sweeteners, additives, stabilizers, preservatives, coloring agents, emulsifiers, pesticides, antibiotics, hormones, fertilizers, industrial solvents, and irradiation. It’s not the purpose of this article to stress on Vegetarianism, Non-Vegetarianism, Veganism, or any other kind of diet or lifestyle.
Healthy means fewer medications. Even if most Australians have benefits in health plans, saving money on medication and hospitalization is always easier on one’s mind, body and wallet.
The way forward…- is to pay attention to what we put into our mouths. Instead of making our food a source of instant dopamine gratification, we should think of it as a source of sustenance. Do you want to be sluggish and fat? Or do you want to have a fit, light and spry physique that can help you enjoy life? Lean, fit and a long, disease-free life: what’s not to love about that? It’s never too late.
