When you are getting a commercial project done, you want it to be done in the best manner possible. You would want value, quality, courtesy, experience, and professionalism in the way a building is made. Of course, a commercial project is a big project and you need skilled commercial contractors who have can do the job just right. There are so many commercial contractors in Richmond, but the thing is that you just cannot pick anyone blindly. You have to be very careful when you go ahead to final a commercial contractor.

How?

By asking certain sets of questions that I will describe in this article!

Are you licensed and insured?

This is the first and the most important question to be asked to a commercial contractor. Though there are different rules for different states, in Richmond, a contractor needs to have a license, and then only he is legally allowed to work as a commercial contractor.

Apart from that, an insured contractor has liability insurance. This protects you if anyone is hurt or if there’s damage to your property during the project. Bonded refers to the contractor’s surety coverage, a form of insurance that protects all parties if the project is never completed if permits aren’t paid for or the contractor fails to meet financial obligations.

Can you give any client references?

A skilled commercial contractor will give you the references to his previous client and the kind of work he has done for them. It then becomes easy to understand the kind of work he has done until now and whether he is the one who is looking for?

Will I get a project manager?

My friend recently got a hotel constructed from one of the most famous commercial contractors in Richmond. The project of hotel construction was huge and there was not just one, but 6 project managers on the spot. The result was just amazing.

So, you can understand that how important it is to have a project manager on the board for your work because it is important to have a familiar face to whom you can bring your concerns and even your compliments to random, rotating strangers will not make for a growing relationship. Also, find out if principle players will take two weeks of vacation in the middle of your project.

How many projects does the construction company have in hand?

OK, this may seem to you like an out of box question and not of your concern. But the real motive behind asking this question is to find out how much importance and attention the company will give to your project. You want the team members and the project managers to be attentive to your needs and concerns.

Do I get any warranty?

Any of the commercial constructions like a shopping mall, hotels, etc should come with a written warranty, guaranteeing the work and stipulations of what’s to happen if you don’t get what you expected. Good contractors will give you anywhere between 12 and 24 months to perform reasonable work that falls within the original contract.
