Choosing the Perfect Black Engagement Ring Band

For couples looking for the perfect ring with which to seal their love, a black engagement ring may seem like the ‘black sheep’ of the family. After all, an engagement is supposed to be a happy event, and black tends to be a funereal colour, more associated with sadness than joy. For this reason, while other coloured diamond variants are popular, black invariably finds itself passed over by the majority of browsing couples.

Those who do decide to give this type of jewel a try, however, will discover a type of gem which perfectly balances durability, affordability and an alluring, mysterious, definitely unique charm. These factors, allied to Western society’s desire to express its individuality through accessorising, have helped black diamond jewellery keep its head above water and slowly increase in popularity throughout the years.

But, of course, a large part of what makes or breaks a ring of this type is picking the right band, and a black engagement ring is no different. Choosing the right colour and material to support the stone may spell the difference between a gorgeous jewel worth showing your friends or something a little more mundane.

Back In Black

When trying to choose a type of band for a black engagement ring, it is important to keep a few considerations in mind. The first, of course, has to do with the personality of the ring wearer; while black jewellery tends to attract a certain type of person initially, it is possible that they may prefer a lighter wedding band to complement the darkness of the stone, rather than one that is just as black. If, however, your significant other does go for a dark-on-dark look, you can rest assured that this reveals that he or she will be self-confident, sophisticated, seductive, unique and romantic – very nearly the perfect match.

The choice of material can also contribute heavily to the visual success of a black engagement ring. The ideal choice is probably platinum, a material at once resistant and attractive, but which may be out of reach of most pockets. White gold or silver are also good and classical options, while lovers on a budget will not be done a disservice by choosing titanium, tungsten or stainless steel – materials which, while less traditional in the world of jewellery, are affordable and trendy alternatives to the ‘classics’.

In the end, the choice of colour and material will, of course, come down to personal taste. However, it is good for brides and grooms to be aware that there are a number of potential options available to combine with a black diamond.
