Revit MEP Training Courses for Different Learning Styles

As every human mind processes things differently, each mind will comprehend a specific style of learning or a combination of different learning styles more easily. The style could be visual, auditory, sensory, learning by reading or writing or simply a combination of all.

According to learning and development (L&D) professionals, a human mind uses four learning styles to process information. These four learning styles, or modalities, were put together by Neil Fleming and Colleen Mills when they developed a learning model in the 1990s known as the ‘VARK’ model - ‘V’ for visual, ‘A’ for aural or auditory, ‘R’ for reading or writing and ‘K’ for kinesthetic.

These four learning styles are further explained below:‘V’ for Visual : Visual learners prefer to learn using diagrams, graphs and maps, as they depict a concept visually. They grasp information by observing shapes and patterns. These learners usually doodle, make lists or take notes during lectures.

  • A’ for Aural or Auditory:Aural learners process information that is heard or understood when someone is speaking. They prefer attending seminars, participating in group discussions or conversing over the telephone. These learners prefer to listen rather than take notes and are usually better at explaining things verbally.
  • R’ for Reading or writing:This learning style is preferred by individuals who comprehend information better when the information is displayed in words. Manuals, reports and essays are their preferred mode of processing information. These learners write information in the form of articles or maintain a diary and search and grasp information by reading it on the Internet.
  • K’ for Kinesthetic:Kinesthetic learners are people who learn by doing. They prefer learning by undergoing an experience, by feeling and touching objects. These learners find it difficult to stay still for long durations and take frequent breaks to completing a task.

Revit MEP training courses can be structured in a manner that can cater to these four learning styles. Here’s how:

Connect PC to TVs:While teaching the software Revit, trainers can connect their laptops to TV screens for better visual understanding. In this way, tools that make modifications in an MEP model can be better comprehended by visual-based learners.

Live Trainers:Learning with a trainer helps auditory learners understand the software in a better manner. As the trainer verbally explains the functioning of the software, such learners can make notes to remember the function of different tools.

Written Notes:If a Revit MEP training centre provides written notes that have different exercises a student can practise, students that prefer learning by reading or writing can benefit in this manner. When such learners read notes while learning the software, they can retain information for a longer time.

Practical Sessions:As kinesthetic learners prefer learning by performing a task, conducting practical sessions helps these learners apply what they have learnt in the software through execution.

In this way, CAD/BIM training centres can structure their Revit MEP training courses to cater to all the four learning styles. A course that is structured with a combination of learning styles helps students retain information for longer periods of time. On completion of such a structured course, students feel that their investment in the course was worth it, and the CAD/BIM training institute receives positive feedback from students and gains increased referrals.
