Book printing china – perfect binding with sewn and without sewn
Posted: Dec 30, 2019
There are many ways for binding when you do a book printing. Most of the books we read are perfect binding. Perfect binding can be divided into with sewn and without sewn. Now let me introduce for you.
First, the binding way is different
The Perfect binding without sewn is to use special glue to fix each page on the spine of the book. The perfect binding with sewn is much stronger than without sewn. It needs to fold and sewn with thread and then brush the glue to fix it.
Second, the operation process is different
1. Perfect binding with sewn: page matching, book entry, back milling, roughing, top side glue, book back glue, cover wrapping, molding, glue cooling, double connection, cutting, cutting finished products, stacking optical books, inspection of finished products, binding.
There are various processing methods and forms. Like the book core is processed, it will have a round back (ridge or no ridge), square back, square angle and round corner, etc.; cover processing is divided into whole face, joint face, square and round angle, foil stamping, embossing patterns, etc.
2. Perfect binding without sewn: page matching, book entry, back milling, roughing, upper side glue, book back glue, cover wrapping, molding, glue cooling, duplex, cutting, cutting finished products, stacking optical books, inspection of finished products, binding.
Most of the lock thread gluing uses needle, thread or rope to paste or nail books together. This method is mostly used to bind some durable books, such as encyclopedia, various dictionaries, arts and Bibles. For more than 100 years, "Smyth" binding method is the most commonly used binding method. It needs to thread the binding line through the spine of the book and thread the pages together. The advantage of using this binding method is that after each page of the book is firmly bound together, it can also be spread out horizontally, which is firm and does not affect reading.
Hardcover books appeared in the Qing Dynasty, which is an imported method from the West. Later, many Western books, such as the Bible and the code, were mostly hardcover. The New Testament, published by Meihua book company in the 20th year of Guangxu's reign in the Qing Dynasty, is a hardcover book. The cover is inlaid with gold characters, very gorgeous. The biggest advantage of hardcover book is that the cover is firm and plays the role of protecting the inside page, making the book durable. The inner page of hardcover books is the same as that of paperback, most of them are lockscrews, and a cloth strip should be pasted on the spine of the books, so as to connect and protect them more firmly. The material for the cover is thick and hard. The cover and back cover are respectively glued to the front and back pages of the book. The spine of the cover and the spine of the page are mostly not glued, so that the inner page is not always affected when you turn it over, which is more flexible. The spine of the book is divided into flat spine and round spine. The flat spine is usually made of hard paper plate as the inner lining of the seal, with a flat shape. Round spine is usually lined with tough materials such as kraft paper and leather, so as to start arc. Cover and spine should be pressed between the groove, ridge, so as to open the cover. Hardcover books are beautifully printed, not easy to fold, easy to use and preserve for a long time, with special design requirements, complicated material selection and technology, so there are many worthy of study.
