While you do have the option to directly visit the IRDAI website to register for insurance agent examination, going through an aggregator proves beneficial. The aggregator provides training and ensures that you get all the assistance to help you through the examination and licensing process.

2. Qualifications to be an Insurance Agent in India

To register for insurance agent training and examination, you need to fulfil the eligibility requirements set forth by the IRDAI. Only individuals who have cleared 12th (HSC) or equivalent qualification are eligible to become an insurance agent.

The candidate also needs to complete at least 15 hours of professional training on general/life insurance from an IRDAI-approved training centre. After training, the candidate can then appear for the IC34 (General Insurance) and IC33 (Life Insurance) exam to get their insurance agent license.

3. Training and Licensing Registration

For registration, your insurance aggregator will require you to fill and upload a few forms online. You will also be required to pay the registration and examination fee through demand draft. On successful registration, the aggregator will then arrange for your training and course materials.

Once the training is completed, you can then appear for IC34 and IC33 examinations. The date and timing for the same will also be informed to the candidate by the insurance aggregator.

4. Clear the Exam and Receive Insurance Agent License

You will receive your insurance agent license once you successfully clear the examination. Even in case if you were unable to clear the exam in your first attempt, you can reappear for the same without paying any additional fee.

There is no limit on the number of times you can appear for the exam. After receiving your license, you can then start working as an insurance agent for your aggregator.
