Outline of the PMP syllabus

The whole PMP examination syllabus is majorly based upon PMBOK, which stands for Project Management Body Of Knowledge. There are 49 major process groups and 10 knowledge areas which are further mapped to 5 process groups, including, planning, initiating, executing, monitoring, and closing.

The exam Format

The exam includes 200 MCQs. 175 questions are scored and rest 25 are unscored. You will be given 4 hours to solve all the questions. There are no negative markings. Each and every question should be attempted for maximizing the score. Across the various topics,

  • Executing has the most number of questions with 31%

  • Initiating -13%

  • Planning -24%

  • Monitoring- 25%

  • Closing-7%

Executing, monitoring and planning phases cover almost 80% of the syllabus.

The passing score isn’t fixed in this exam. But according to statistics, in this psychometric test, the marks one obtains is based on the difficulty of the level of the questions. Two people never get the same set of questions. It is not at all an easy examination. The passing rate of examinees in the first attempt is between 50 to 60 %.
