New exam pattern to be enrol from this session for Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)

The registrations have already been began for the CLAT Prems exam as students begins their preparation for the for undergraduate and post-graduate law programmes

Major changes have been enrolled in the CLAT exam from this year, the Executive Committee of the Consortium of the National Law has introduced a new exam pattern pertaining to the exam structure and composition of questions

Following changes have been rolled out in this year CLAT exam

1. Number of Questions

The number of questions has been minimised to 150 from 200. It was decided earlier that proposed number of questions is to be between 150 and 120 keeping in mind the duration of exam which is 120 minutes. Professor Faizan Mustafa, the president of the Consortium, also Vice-Chancellor, NSLAR university of Law, Hyderabad, has said that saying students to answer 200 questions in 120 minutes is quite bulging on the part of student to answer all the 200 questions in 120 minutes

2. Exam not changing form offline mode to online mode

The exam mode has not seen any change as the exam will be continue to held in offline mode. The exam will be a knowledge based test consisting questions from quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, legal reasoning, English language and Current affairs including general knowledge & static knowledge. "The idea is to get better students to National Law Universities who have competence in reading texts and demonstrate skills in inferential reasoning," Professor Mustafa had said in the meeting held in December.

3. Sample Paper for Candidates

It also been decided that Consortium of NLUs website shall facilitate the all the required guidelines, sample questions and answers, model question paper series, answer for each segment and online learning material s to registered candidates. All the online material will be available to students who have a registered account who have started the online process for CLAT exam.

4. Cut off for the CLAT test

The committee has set off the cut off marks for the post graduate law exam entrance test which is as follows: for general it is more than 40% marks in the objective type test and for SC/ST/PwD category is 35%

Jaswal (VC-RGNUL Punjab), Professor Balraj Chauhan (VC- Dharmashastra National Law University, Jabalpur), Professor Sudhir Krishnaswamy (VC-NLSIU Bengaluru), Professor Faizan Mustafa (VC- NALSAR Hyderabad), Professor Srikrishna Deva Rao (VC-NLUO, Cuttack) and Professor Kesava Rao Vurrakula (VC in charge NUSRL, Ranchi).
