Did anyone call your singing pathetic?

Perhaps, you might be pitchy only that particular day because of some kind of stress on your mind. You may not be such a bad singer at all. But, it may not be your day. Take it as a constructive criticism. Try to identify why your listeners were not happy with it.

Most probably, it is due to being a pitchy, which is producing flat or sharp notes. When your notes sound slightly lower in pitch, they sound flat. When your vocals go slightly higher in pitch, you sing sharp. It usually happens when you do not start on the centre of the note. You sound awkward while not fitting in with the notes of the scale.

Let’s get through the reasons for being pitchy and how you can fix them.

1. Being in "Off" mood

There may be a time when you would have found pitching notes very hard. However, every singer wishes to get appreciated for being all good in singing. But, some sort of stress does not let it happen. It can even make you guilty of not having a good voice and you may want to quit it all.

Solution:

Keep it into account that it can happen to anyone. Even, some polished vocalists thrive to catch the pitch. It is simply because they have not practiced consistently. Or, they might not have sung for a while. The key thing is to relax at that time. Take some time to cope with that stress. Stay calm and focus on the notes so that your muscles can adjust themselves in that way.

2. Being an untrained

Incorrect pitching happens due to two concrete reasons. First, you are tone deaf. He is someone who cannot differentiate, as if he is being in tune or out of tune. The second is the case when you know how to distinguish, but you have an untrained ear.

Solution

If you don’t have any idea about which case is yours, you can sing along with and without piano notes. Make sure that you record both. Then, play the track to recognise the difference. Hopefully, you can identify the off pitch, if there is any.

To train your ears, play one track in lower and another in a higher pitch. Try to match your vocals while playing the sound. Some singing lessons by experts in Gold Coast or anywhere in your nearby can assist on how to juggle from higher to lower and vice versa. Play & listen to those tracks over and over. This exercise will train your ears to recognise & sing on pitch.

3. Forget using ears:

It’s a common practice that you recognise the difference, but usually do not use this trick. Make it your tendency if you really want to go the extra miles. This training will let your ears identify the exact note before you sing it.

Solution

You have the notes playing in your head before. Your nervous system will send the message to your vocal muscles to adjust themselves accordingly. Besides, practice warms ups and breathing exercises every day. These tweaks will help you to keep your breathing space free. The muscles can be able to pitch on rightly.

Apart from that, practice singing lessons along with piano. Record to listen to yourself. A vocal coach can also assist you by pointing at where you get wrong. He can guide you the best way to overcome any stress or challenges that interfere with your correct singing.
