There is no denial to the fact that India in comparison to other countries is lagging behind in terms of the way attrition rate is managed, and the employees are kept happy. Ever thought why is that so? No? Let us give you the answer. That is because companies think of it as a costly affair. Honestly, if you use the right strategy, it can be done without or little involvement of money. The same can be done by rising above the belief ingrained in our mind that employees can only be their most productive self when someone is standing on their heads, poking them every now and then, and when there is military-like order. However, if there is one thing that goes for a toss because of this is employee happiness. They get an impression of distrust, micromanagement and start feeling disgruntled.

However, let us not go far, there are companies in India itself that have succeeded in keeping the employees happy and productivity high without being stringent. Want to know what has helped them achieve the same? The secret is the unique leave policies. The policies help their employees in achieving a sense of balance between personal life and professional life.

  • Non-smoker’s leave- Frequent smoke breaks impact the productivity of the employees and the firm ultimately. And there is actually nothing that a company can do about it. So, the only bait in this scenario is to give extra leaves to those not taking smoke breaks. So, that the smokers can also at least avoid taking frequent breaks while in office. This is like a healthy practice that can make employees quit smoking or reduce the frequency and also helps the company in increasing the productivity of the employees. The HR and payroll software can easily customise this policy in itself.

  • Unlimited Vacations- It is necessary for the companies to start taking work hard, party harder seriously. You should start giving them the opportunities to travel more too! When the employees will get leaves allocated separately for the purpose of travel, they will start planning for it. Some of them may travel in search of peace, some in quest of adventure and others to enjoy and explore new places. No matter whatever it is, you should know that this will help the employee in coming back to the office in full swing and enthusiasm to work. As a result, he will be able to deliver better results. Make sure you mark this in the payroll and HR software you use.

  • Pawternity Leaves- As the name of this leave is quite tricky, for most of you it would be equally amusing and unique to know about this leave too. This leave helps the employees in taking their pets to work. Some companies that follow this leave type and have factored the same in their HR and payroll software are Airbnb, Yammer. The same is allowed as the pets are a stress buster and the work hours can be spent by the employees happily during that day enjoying their time with the pets.
