There are many diets out there that saying they can help your body get rid of body fat. Learning how to combine foods right is a key to managing weight. Knowing which foods can be eaten up together is the heart of this weight loss approach. When you eat harmonious foods at the same meal, your digestive system is able to perform its task the right way. Here’s a simple guide for optimum food combining. You can divide foods into one of four groups based on their digestive characteristics. You can groupsort foods into these types: protein, carbohydrates, fruits, and non-starchy veggies. Protein foods include eggs, fish and shellfish, meat, milk, yogurt and cheese, soybeans, soy products and tofu, and nuts. Carbohydrates include potatoes and starchy vegetables, grains such as rice, corn, oats and millet, pasta, honey, desserts, and baked goods such as bread, biscuits, cakes, and pastry doughs. Salad ingredients form the non-starchy veggie category, in addition to herbs and some seeds.

Fruits are subdivided into sweet, acidic, sub-acidic, and melons. Figs, prunes, bananas, and dehydrated fruits hold adequate amounts of sugar to be classified as sweet. Pineapples, lemons, oranges, and grapefruits are the well known fruits in the acidic class. The fruits noted as sub-acidic, such as apples, papayas, kiwis, peaches, and berries contain less acid than citrus fruit, which is the reason they are called sub-acidic. Melons include watermelon, muskmelon, honeydew, and many other melons.

Different chemical conditions are needed by every food type, to be entirely broken down. Whereas an alkaline condition is necessary to completely digest carbohydrates, for instance, an acidic condition is needed by proteins. When you combine proteins and carbohydrates simultaneously in a meal, the acidic and alkaline mixture of digestive fluids creates a neutral condition in the digestive track. The resulting incomplete break down of food is asking for trouble. Bloating, acid reflux, cramps, gas and even irritable bowel syndrome can result from eating wrong food combinations over time.

Here is information on how to avoid digestive problems and improve your health. Don’t combine proteins and carbohydrates at the same time. Also, consider that the various types of food need various periods of time to be completely digested. It takes 2 hours to break down carbs, 4 to digest foods high in protein. Thus, wait at least three hours after you have consumed a carb meal to consume protein.
