Business Aspects of PM Narendra Modi visit to Nepal

According to nafanuksan which is Hindi newspaper, to strengthen the ties between India and Nepal Prime Minister declared that a Pipeline will be made for supply of petrol, diesel and ATF from Bihar to Kathmandu.

On a visit to Nepal, Prime Minister Modi said that a 200 crore pipeline will be constructed. The Nepalese delegates requested India for this and the India agreed. The initial phase of the construction will be from Raxaul to Amlekhgunj and then extend it up to Kathmandu in the next phase.

Nepal imports all the requirement of its fuel from India. Commodities like Petrol, diesel and LPG are exported from India through Raxaul in Bihar to Kathmandu.

It was in 2006 when it was decided to construct a pipeline from Raxaual to Amlekhgunj and it was to be 50:50 funded but later it refused to share.IOC has decided to shift their base from Raxaul to Moti hari. So now the pipeline may have to be shifted from Raxaul to Moti hari. It is an 81 km long line and cost Rs 2oo crore.

The IOC official said that the pipeline is not very big project but they will have to take statutory clearance from authorities in India and In Nepal.The Raxaul Amlekhgunj project was to cost 100 crore excluding the land rates but now it will be double of that.

Nepalese Commerce Minister Sunil Bahadur Thapa also discuss this topic with the Indian Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan On July 30. IOC is the main supplier of Petroleum products to the Nepal and Mr. Thapa has reopened the subject of this topic with Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan. Nepal was already aware of the fact that there is some adulteration and pilferage during trucking and now it has to be solved so it is great step towards solving this problem.

The IOC official will build the pipeline now.

India also announced a support of USD 1 billion credit to Nepal.The two sides also agreed to sign a Power Trade Agreement within 45 days. India will help in construction of multilane bridge on Mahakali River so that the route gets easier between western Nepal and Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and New DelhiPrime minister also donated 2500kg of sandalwood to Pashu Patinath temple. India also promised for the renovation of temple and for this 25 crore will be provided.

India also offered for development of janakpur, Baraha Chhetre, and Lumbini with the Buddhist circuit of India as per the proposal from government of Nepal.
