Most people looking to buy an LED TV don’t know the differences between lots of available LED TVs today, & end up getting hopelessly confused or worse, bring home a LED TV they didn’t want!

The endless blabber of salespersons doesn’t help either, & customers only get more confused after someone tries to sell them a ‘Great, home-friendly LED TV’!

The key that’ll break the pattern is the right information from the right sources.

In this article, we tell you the differences between the two most popular types of LED TVs; the Full HD LED TV & the Ultra HD LED TV.

Resolutions:

To begin with, we first talk about the resolutions of these two LED TVs.

1080p/FHD

4K/UHD

Full High Definition 1080p resolution

Includes 4K UHD & 8K UHD resolutions

1920 x 1080 pixels

The resolution for 4K UHD is 3,840 x 2,160 pixels, while for 8K UHD is 7680 x 4320 pixels.

Superior to High Definition(HD) which includes both 720p (1280 x 720) and 1080i(1920 x 1080 interlaced) resolution

Although technically 4K UHD is not 4K resolution, it's close enough. (4K resolution is 4096 x 2160)

Although FHD has the same resolution as 1080i, unlike it FHD(1080p) uses progressive scanning, which makes for better viewing of fast-moving content & motion visuals.

4K UHD uses four times as pixels as, or twice the resolution of, FHD. Like FHD, it also uses progressive scanning for accurate rendering of motion visuals.

FHD is most commonly used for small televisions

UHD is most commonly used in larger televisions.

In conclusion:

Looking at the above table, one can easily deduce that Ultra HD LED TVs deliver a better resolution & picture-quality than Full HD LED TVs. However, good picture-quality also comes at a price. Ultra HD LED TVs are considerably more expensive than Full HD LED TVs. If you’re more concerned about your budget than crystal clear picture quality, then Full HD LED TVs are the perfect fit for you! Ultra HD LED TVs do give you a better picture-quality & more refined visuals, which are very clearly visible on a larger screen like 55-inch & 65-inch, but speaking about smaller, more common screens like 49-inch, Full HD LED TVs to offer you a great deal too!

Ultra HD LED TVs to have four times the pixel density as Full HD LED TVs, which means about four FHD images can fit into the space of one UHD image, which immediately doubles the overall resolution of UHD.

UHD TVs usually make use of LCD(which includes LED, LCD & QLED) or OLED technologies. Although UHD primarily has to do with resolution, additional qualities like HDR & Wide Color Gamut by some TV makers have helped Ultra HD LED TVs deliver an all-encompassing TV watching experience to their viewers.

Availability of content:

1080p/Full HD LED TVs

4K/Ultra HD LED TVs

Blu-Ray content is natively made for Full HD resolution.

You need UHD blu-ray discs to watch proper 4K UHD visuals.

Most streaming platforms like Netflix & Hulu have settings to support Full HD content definition

Ultra HD content is limited but is available through both Direct TV & Dish network. Streaming services like Netflix, Vudu & Amazon prime support some UHD content, & are available through their various plans.

Most video game consoles support FHD but upscale content from games rendered in resolutions lower than 1080p

You’d have to play really high-ranking & in-demand video games to demand a UHD version of those.

In conclusion:

To view content in either FHD or UHD, you require all the elements in the supply chain to deliver & support quality FHD & UHD content. When it comes down to it, you can see that while most content channels support FHD displays, there’s still room for UHD support to come through.

This doesn’t mean that you have any need to fear if you want to buy an Ultra HD LED TV, as most popular streaming apps & video games today do support fine-quality UHD resolution.

In both the cases, however, one needs to ensure that not just the TV, but also the content, the HDMI cable, the connection speed, the streaming device &/or media player are compatible to the said resolution, either FHD or UHD display.

Cables & connections that can be used:

In conclusion:

Whether wired or wireless, all connections require a proper, required speed to deliver the required content in a particular format, either UHD or FHD.

As for cables, you can easily see that although most Full HD LED TVs will function best when provided with high-speed ethernet, wi-fi &/or HDMI cable connections, they can still function at moderate speed connections. Unlike FHD however, Ultra HD LED TVs require high-speed internet connections to function effectively & deliver good-quality content, the way they promise their users.

Overall, to conclude the entire article, we can safely deduce that while Ultra HD LED TVs are the indisputable winners among LED TVs when it comes to superb picture quality & offering you a brilliant TV watching experience if you have a budget constraint, Full HD LED TVs are the perfect TVs for you!
