Each runner can tell you their story and explain how good running can instantly improve their mood. When your body starts to produce endorphins, you get a sense of joy, the "runner's high", which is a well-known scientific basis for putting on your running shoes and sprint for miles.

1. General physical benefits

Running is an aerobic activity. It helps with effective oxygen circulation in the body and better cardiovascular well being. In other words, it's good for your heart. Even a minimum run (five minutes per day) can be beneficial. Running can also lead to improved immune system. Committed runners have a greater lung capacity.

The longer you run, the longer you will exercise, which in turn strengthens your muscles' ability to effectively generate energy. Endurance training can help you in every aspect of your daily life, whether on the running tracks or off.

2. Losing weight

In the long run, running helps lower cholesterol levels and is one of the best ways to burn calories. This leads to weight loss. We all burn calories while exercising. The advantage is that the burns continue even after you have stopped training.

And best of all, you don't have to sprint fast to achieve this advantage.

3. Benefits for the brain

a. Reduce stress

Stress can have very harmful impact on your mental processes and body. The well known side effects include severe headaches, body tension, accidents, anger, altered libido, insomnia etc.

b. Running can improve mood

Runners feel better during or after running. We know a lot about how painful running can be and why we feel rewarded at the same time.

Running is just as effective as a prescription of antidepressants. During a run, you will most likely be immersed in the moment, get into physical condition and be aware of your breathing - an important goal of all mindfulness exercises.

c. Running increases creativity

The best way to get into this creative state of mind is to involve the brain into something, but not too involved mentally. I think running fits very well with this description because your brain is involved in what you do and where you go next, but you don't overdo it. They don't think about other things at the moment.

4. Group running brings more benefits

There is no better way to start training than with a friend. You can talk about everything while running socially.

In addition, you feel connected by the shared experience. No wonder the elite running groups perform better than the elites who train them. Even if you don't know your running mates well, a group or pack is much more motivational than walking alone.

New terrain

Have you ever got lost and don't know how to get out of trouble? Social activities can also broaden your horizons by walking on new ground. It's amazing how uplifting it is to try a different track. Whether you're in a trail running group or with other groups, running on different terrains can give you a fresh experience and perspective.
