There have been leaders in the past who have revolutionized this world single handedly. Names like Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King still resonate in the ears as an epitome of Leadership. What makes them a true Leader! Certainly it’s not the key positions they acquire or the power they have, but ability to influence and inspire people with their character, action and vision. Reading about such individuals has always intrigued me. Since childhood I’ve always tried to stand out among others. For example, in school, I had been a class monitor several times and have had represented my school in several occasions. I have learnt the art of leadership over the years and still work on improvising myself.

Being a soccer player, I joined a Soccer Academy after completing my O levels. Soon I was able to make a mark on the pitch and was assigned captaincy for the club team. It was not until then; when my Team lost a major tournament that I realized how important it is to have trust of your team members.. This made me realize how essential it is to gel in with the team to work towards a common goal. I implemented this learning while we formed a group of 6 members for our Final Year Project in the graduation year. I managed to lead the team and made sure each member shares same level of trust and support. Our Project resulted to be the best among all the entries.

Apart from this, entering into my first job at Applus Velosi, I started my career as Trainee Engineer and in few months I was promoted to "Team Lead" position. My job was to lead the team of draftsman for completion of the alignment drawings of the pipeline project namely Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline. It was a whole new experience for me, to lead a team of about 15 professionals meant a lot of responsibility and ownership of the work. Most importantly, to be accountable for every error made by the team and to back the team in critical stages, taught me true traits of being on lead position at the start of my career. My next job was as a Project Controls Engineer on PARCO Coastal Refinery Project. Although I am a junior engineer assisting the Project Manager but still I have been learning new skills about leadership, working on this project. My core job description includes Planning, Budgeting, Cost Control and Resource Management on the Project.
