Everyone at some point in time wants eagerly to get wed with their partner. Talking about the wedding, we plan all the things and how can we forget the most important thing for the celebration to be started with. Yes! You have guessed it right. We are here will be talking about the wedding cake. However, not many people realize the history of wedding cake and why it is considered to be of so much importance. There are different types of wedding cakes in every tradition which can vary. Whether these are Asian wedding cakes or the western wedding cakes, there are many things that you might want to know.

The History That You Must Know:

Before even the concept of wedding cake started the tradition to have something fresh and sweet at the wedding was always from ancient times. It is believed that Asian wedding cake during the golden era was quite different as compared to those fancy Asian wedding cakes that we see today. Cakes were not eaten by the guests who would be attending the occasions. Rather, there was a bare bread loaf which was used for the nuptials. The groom will have to cut the portion of bread and the rest will be given to the bride but in a unique way. The brad has to be cut on the head of the bride. This was the icon symptom of making the bride lose her state of virginity.

In medieval England, the tradition was only for the newlyweds to have a sweet bun which would be piled up and the couple has to kiss the stack. If they are successful to kiss without pile falling then it is a sign that they will have many kids.

However, time changes and from the 17th or 19th century, cakes were used. Birthday pie was the most common one which was often similar to the mincemeat. It always used to be inside the grass ring hiding and the lady who finds the ring will be the next one to get married.

The Decoration In Olden Times:

Be it the Asian wedding cake or the cake of any other custom and tradition. It is often white in color hose size and flavor may vary. White is considered to be the sign of peace and purity which is why it is always added in the cake. There as another interesting decoration tradition being followed and it was the groom’s cake. The cake was supposed to be made for the guests who would be part of the holy ceremony. It may not be white but dark in some cases if made of fruits which have to be preserved for the guests to enjoy later too.

Ideally, the first thing that most of the people who often walk at the reception hall notice are the wedding cake. It can be either the large tiered one with the model of groom and bride at the top. Such type of cake can be of a variety of things. It can be a simple chocolate cake or even the traditional white cake. The shape can also be customized and vary. Some prefer having a castle while for some it is an Eiffel tower. The cake can be decorated to fit the theme, desires, and color of the couple too.
