If you were offered, a tray of one hundred mints, and three or four of these, were poisonous/ toxic, would you, still take one, as a taste?

During this current pandemic, which some detractors, are proclaiming, is not, so dangerous, because only a small percentage of those, who get the disease, end up, dying from it, isn't that, somewhat, similar to, partaking in, the bowl, containing, certainly tainted mints?

President Donald Trump has stated, on several occasions, we must reopen the nation's business or risk, great financial/ economic damage, although, even his own, panel of public health/ pandemic experts, state, we must prioritize, flattening - the - curve, which means, reducing the exponential growth, of cases, by a smart, fully considered, health policy, which, includes, having more people stay home, for a period, and, when making contact, paying attention to, Social Distancing. With Trump's recent messaging, and apparently, urging Governors to comply with his ideas, he seems, to be focused, on prioritizing the stock market, over the long - term ramifications, in terms of public health. With that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, 4 potential factors, which may be significant/ relevant.

  1. Risk/ reward: As with many decisions, public leaders must often, weigh the potential risks, versus possible rewards! They do so, when it comes to foreign and domestic policies, often! However, when the President contradicts the advice of the vast percentage of public health experts/ professionals, and uses a message, stating, we need to reopen the business, claiming the economic ramifications, might be worse than the pandemic! Is this a sane policy, which protects our society?
  2. Science. versus, the hype: Donald Trump has, consistently, been a master of the so-called, hype, and having the ability to politically, motivate and inspire his core supporters, by appealing to their perceived interests, perceptions, prejudices, and biases! On the other hand, scientists, warn, the only way, to minimize the health risks, is to emphasize, Social Distancing!
  3. Contain, or expand: What should we do, proceed to contain the health risks, and damage, or remove these public protections, and, significant risk, a substantial expansion, and, escalation of the risks of this pandemic?
  4. Populist, realistic, or responsible: In times of crisis, real leaders must take responsible control, and be guided, by reality, even when it may be unpopular! This President has continued, articulating a populist message, apparently, prioritizing, or miscalculating the delicate balance, between the economic needs fo the nation, and world, versus the political ramifications, and fall - out!

Wake up, America, and realize, all the money, in the world, will not guarantee your health, or protect, reasonably, the best, public health, interests, of the nation! Demand better, even if it hurts!
