Teflon vs Ceramic Coating for Cars: Which one is Better?
Posted: Apr 13, 2020
Are you planning to become a proud owner of a new car? The musty smell of the interiors, the shiny and glossy body appeal to you and you wish to keep your car brand new forever, with its lamination and shine intact. Do not fret anymore; you can protect your car and with little effort and care to keep it as close to brand new as possible.
There are a few coatings used to protect your car body, but two of the most popular methods are either Teflon coating your car or opting for a ceramic coating.
But before you opt for any coating surfaces make sure to get your car washed properly to dispose off of any oil, dirt or any material residue so that the coating lasts for a long time. Then compounding of the vehicle is done to get rid of any swirl marks and shine the body of the car using a cutting compound.
For this, first, a rotary polish is used for applying the cutting mixture and buffing it perfectly all over the body. Then a dual action polisher is used to set in the cutting compound to give that sheen and get rid of the marks. Now that car wash and compounding are done; let's figure out if Teflon coating is the better or ceramic coating?
Teflon coating vs Ceramic coating
Teflon is a synthetic wax-based Fluro-polymer with only about 0.2 microns thickness to form a protective layer on the painted body of the car. It is the same material used in our non-stick cookware. So to subtly put it, it is not much long-lasting and will need constant touch-ups.
The ceramic coating engages carborundum. This carborundum is the hardest known element existing on the planet. Hence it engages with the painted layer of the car or even just the metal surface to form a physically powerful bond which due to the nanoparticles used fits in ideally like a second skin of the paint to become water and chemical or dirt resistant.
Using this very reactive polymer technology Permagard created their very own patented technology used ceramic coatings which have been in use not only for cars but for aeroplanes and sea vehicles to deal with salty marine waters. This technology makes uses of the reactive polymer technology which happens inside the painted surface, which is porous to take place at the molecular level.
Now, this creates a perfectly aligned barrier to protect the exterior of the vehicle from UV exposure, bird lime, tree sap or any dirt and grim.
Though ceramic coating is pricier, almost as high as five times the price of Teflon coating, it is way more long-lasting almost lasting for a lifetime. The Teflon coating durability is only for about 5-6 months which needs to be re-done consistently for 5-6 months. This will shorten the lifespan of car paint as well.
Also, it provides much less resistance and protection from chemical and environmental pollutants as compared to the ceramic coating. The ceramic, on the other hand, will last you for almost the entire life span of the vehicle with much higher resistance to pollutants. Also, it’s the self-cleaning attribute, and slick nature keeps the car maintained and highly glossy sheen with just a regular and easy cleaning service.
So, we have seen, even though the higher price slab ceramics coating offers much better protection and sheen to your car. We suggest that you invest in a good ceramic coating like that of Permagard for your beloved car as it does reflect on who you are.
However, if you are looking for an option that is cost-effective and sustains for a longer period; Permagard's Reactive Polymer Technology should be the solution that you opt to coat your car with. The recently developed biodegradable technology is extremely proficient and worth every penny that you spend on it. So, keep your car shining like a pearl and yourself happy!
