5 ways to encourage your child to perform better at school

These days, the pressure on students is only getting higher. Many of them are unable to cope up with this pressure which eventually effects their performance and grades at school. It is very important for guardians and parents to understand that the more pressure you put on your children, the more difficult it would be for them to come out of the situation. Let’s look at some ways in which you can improve their performance at school and in academics.

Become friends with them

Generation gap prevents children from sharing their feelings with you. The moment you become their best friends, they will start sharing their deepest fears, challenges and concerns with you. You will start understanding them in a better way. Never take their issues and complaints lightly. Most parents don’t spend quality time with their children. It is your responsibility to make an effort and spend time with them so that they open up and share their feelings with you. Address their issues immediately and always give logical reasons so that they understand your point of view in a better way.

Visit their school

Many parents visit cbse affiliated schools only when teachers call them for the open house. You can take some time out to visit your child’s school more frequently. You could also drop them to their school once in a while, so that they feel you are with them always. Most children don’t feel like going to school. You can cheer them up and accompany them in their journey to the school. This will lighten up their mind and they will slowly start enjoying their schooling days. Whenever you get a chance to visit their school, you can also meet their teachers to understand where your child is facing difficulties.

Give them rewards

Rewarding your child from time to time will keep them motivated. You can buy them gifts when they perform well at school. You can also take them out for a picnic. However, never demotivate them when they are unable to score good marks in their exams. This will put tremendous pressure on them and they will never be able to come out of the situation. Give them reassurance that you are with them even when they don’t score well in exams. This will ease their tension and give them energy to try harder the next time.

Make learning fun

Never get serious when it comes to learning. Look at ways in which you can make the process more exciting for your children. Sit down with them and teach them by giving them examples that they can relate with. The moment your child starts taking interest in his studies, he will automatically try understanding concepts in a better way. He will try diving deep into the subject. Never ask your children to mug up answers. This is a very mechanical process which will not improve their knowledge in any way.

Lastly, one must understand that academics is not everything in life. Encourage your child to take part in extracurricular activities as well. Focus more on their all-round development and not only on their academics.

Synopsis

Performance anxiety at school and peer pressure can only worsen the condition for them. It is more important to understand their challenges closely and look at ways in which learning can be made fun. Find out how you can motivate your child to face these challenges and perform better at school.
