An important aspect of growth: Training
Posted: Apr 16, 2020
Growth is something that every business would look at undoubtedly. Growth in terms of revenue, market share, top line, bottom line, etc. etc.
While companies are so focused on growth they often ignore the underlying factors that form the basis of growth. One of the most ignored factors is training.
Yes, while companies want their staff to show their A-game all the time and keep abreast with the latest knowledge and perform well, they fail to understand the importance of regular training.
With proper training to their employee companies can ensure sustainable growth.
Now when we say training, you might picture a huge formal set up with many people attending the session, something which has to be planned months in advance. (Probably this is the reason small and mid-level companies shy away from conducting training sessions). However, this is not right.
Here is what companies, especially small and mid-level can do.
Don’t wait for something big to talk about
You don’t have to wait for a big new update or technology or market change. Even if there is a small change in the working that has the scope of improvement, prepare a small presentation, call the concerned people in your team and update them with the latest change.
These small improvements collectively go a long way and contribute big to the overall development.
Hire a training space
In case there is something important to talk about. A new government policy, upcoming competitor or a change in your marketing strategy, it is wise to hire a formal training space.
The reasons are manifold.
First of all, it will break the monotony of the usual office space. Breaking the monotony will result in better focus and will add a little enthusiasm to the attendees. Small changes are nice!
Later, a formal training space will have all the required facilities that your office might not have. Starting from space to accommodate many people, a big screen to show the presentation, a pointer to highlight specific points, mic to be audible till the last row, etc. etc.
If you are in the IT industry it is all the more important to hire an it training room that can have all the above facilities for a smooth training experience.
Make your training exercise interesting
One big reason why professional dread training, is that it makes them feel bored. But whatever said and done you will have to impart new knowledge to them. The way to do it is – make your training exciting.
Make the presentations interactive, take breaks in between after a few modules, add tea/coffee sessions. All this will add to your training presentation and will make your attendees more focused.
Give notes and handouts
It is likely, that the attendees might forget half of the things by the time your training ends.
You can’t blame them, the world is full of distractions and people have the attention span of a goldfish. Your attendees might be having many things running in their heads while you are training them.
What best you can do is give handouts, notes and if possible forward the presentation you are showing. They can later revisit it and recollect important points.
Make training a part of your growth strategy. It will pay great dividends and take your company of a growth trajectory.
