Every company irrespective of its phase wants to have cost cutting in order to generate more revenue. A company or a firm can be of anything but there are many services that almost every company needs. For example: a telecommunication service so that an individual can communicate with another individual.

Traditional telecommunication services were quite expensive hence; they were not in the favor of any company. So, there was a need to have an advanced telecommunication platform which does not only work as a communication medium but also reduce the cost of the company.

The advanced telecommunication service is also known as "trunk line service" that has many technical terms such as PBX (Private Branch Exchange), ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network), POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service), VoIP (Voice over IP) etc. There are many companies that provide trunk line service such as TSTT’s trunk line service Tobago etc.

PBX

A PBX is basically a branch which is responsible for switching the calls within a company by using the local lines only. It also enables the users to allocate a certain code of the external phone lines. It is beneficial for any company as it saves the cost of having each line for every individual to the telecom office.

A PBX is managed by the company itself rather than the telecom company that is actually providing its services. With the aid of technology, nowadays a PBX is able to convert the digital signals into analog signals that are helpful in making outside calls using POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service). Following are the elements that a PBX may have:

  • Many phone lines that are terminated at the PBX
  • The network of lines within the PBX
  • A system that can handle the switching of calls within the PBX
  • An optional switchboard to operator it

Analog Trunks

A trunk is generally a link between a user’s PBX and the central office. A trunk is able to offer various services such as only inbound calls, only outbound calls, both ways calling and also toll services. One can go with any of the services as per the requirements.

Following are some of its benefits:

  • One can restrict or permit the type of calls within an organization
  • Best for the industries that have the requirement of switched access services

SIP Trunk

A SIP trunk has a straight link between any company and an Internet Telephony Service Provider (ITSP). It is able to extend the VoIP (Voice over IP) without the assistance of an IP-PSTN gateway. Many companies nowadays are using this as it is simpler and less expensive to design, control, maintain and improve or upgrade.

SIP trunks are also helpful in forwarding instant messages, multimedia conferences, emergency calls and many real time communication services etc.

Following are some of the benefits of SIP trunks:

  • Suitable for long distance services
  • Eliminate the use of IP-PSTN gateways
  • Remove unnecessary networks
  • Avoid BRI and PRI subscription fees

There are many agencies and online websites that are dealing in providing the various kinds of telecommunication services. One can approach them in order to get their services.
