MEITY update its BIS Registration Mandatory Product List

Hi Reader, if you are also involved directly or indirectly in the business of electronic products or you have an interest in electronic products information, then this news will be very important for you. Now electronic musical systems and storage devices exceeding 256 GB capacity will also require BIS clearance before the sale in the country.

Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) has added a few more products to the mandatory list of BIS Registration. The Indian government notified the scheme in 2012 to curb the sale of imported products in the country. Mobile phones and many wireless products have already been included under the plan.

The new and updated product list for mandatory registrations under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) before the sale in the country included external hard drives, wireless headphones and earphones, plasma, LCD and LED televisions other than television sets.

In the notification of "Linking Product Categories" of Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2012, the Indian government made it mandatory for standalone LED modules for general lighting, series lighting or rope lights, induction stoves, rice cooker, Automatic teller cash dispensing machine, USB type external hard disk for obtaining clearance from BIS.
