Overview of Hindi Language

Hindi is considered to be 1000 years old and believed to be evolved from the Sanskrit, which is a part of Indo-Aryan language family. Hindi is the third most spoken language in the world after English and Mandarin. It is official language of India with over 44% having it as their mother tongue and it is also spoken in parts of Australia, Bangladesh, Belize, Bhutan, Botswana, Canada, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Germany, Guyana, Kenya, Nepal, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Sint Maarten, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Yemen, Zambia,etc. There are around 49 dialects of it including Haryanvi, Bundeli, Chattisgari, etc. Historians believe that initially Hindi was written in brahmi script which later down changed to devanagri script. It is related to other languages such as Urdu, Bengali, Gujarathi, Marathi, etc and even it has connections to the European languages like German and Spanish because historians believe that Indo-Aryan group of people migrated from Europe to India crossing Hindukush mountains. The entire history of hindi is divided in 4 main parts: - • Adikal (Ancient period) – 10th century to 14th century• Bhaktikal (Devotional period) – 14th century to 17th century• Ritikal (Scholastic period) – 17th to 18th century• Modern literature – Current
The study of Hindi language basically involves grammar or vyakaran and literature or sahitya. The hindi vyakaran is building block of language which defines the rules to be followed in framing the sentences, it deals with parts of speech, usage of words, semantics etc. It also involves tenses, verbs, idioms, etc. It is basically a phonetic language which means that the words are pronounced as they are written down. This makes it very easy to learn. Hindi utilizes prefixes and suffixes to form simple words and to highlight grammatical relations. Hindi uses postpositions and not prepositions to express various case relationships. On the other hand hindi literature deals with stories, essay, poems, plays and epics. The important among them are Mahabharat and Ramayan which are believed to be written thousands of years back. Other important works include Madhushala, Panchtantra, One can pursue higher studies in hindi language, the option available is bachelor of arts degree, followed by maters of arts degree. However one can also go ahead for MPhil and Phd. There are lot of exciting and challenging career option available in the field of journalism, government sector, diplomatic projects, teaching, translators, freelancing, editing and script writing etc.
