The Block Glasshouse lovebirds Max and Karstan reveal wedding plans
Posted: Aug 20, 2014
WHEN they tie the knot in December, The Block Glasshouse lovebirds Max and Karstan will be seeing every detail of their happy day for the very first time.
The Newcastle pair, who met on the internet nine years ago, have signed up for a "lucky dip" wedding, where an event planner uses a handful of clues as inspiration for a ceremony and reception that’s kept completely secret.
Having earnt themselves a super-relaxed reputation on the Channel Nine renovation reality show, it’s clear Max and Karstan’s casual attitude is not just for show.
"Most couples spend that whole day panicking that something isn’t in the right place or a detail hasn’t gone to plan, and we didn’t want that," Karstan, 27, explained.
"These ladies design your entire wedding based on pictures you’ve put on (picture-sharing website) Pinterest. You rock up and it’s all a surprise."
The only thing about the December 6 nuptials they do know is the location — Karstan’s grandmother’s sprawling Nelson Bay in New South Wales.

"There’s house, grass, sand and then water. I spent a lot of time there when I was young and it’s the place the whole family goes for holidays. It just felt like the right spot."
Bride-to-be Max, 24, said she was approaching the day with an open mind and will be happy with whatever wedding they get.
Although she quashed her beau’s idea of leaping into the water together after they’ve said their vows.
They will become husband and wife after a nine-year courtship, which began with a chance virtual meeting on a social networking website.
"It was a website called Hi5, like social media before it was a thing and before MySpace and all that," Karstan recalled.
"I went on there and was looking at friends of friends and saw this chick and added her. One weekend, she gave me her number and we met up for drinks. We hit it off. It was a bit random."
Viewers of this year’s series of The Block have taken to social media to comment on the fiery interactions between some of the couples, particularly Dee and Darren.
The drama of renovating has been overshadowed by vocal arguments and tense relations — but not from Max and Karstan.
"Our relationship is quite easy," Max said. "It always has been but we’re used to being together in difficult settings."
One of those challenging environments was a small kombi van, in which they travelled across Australia over a nearly 12-month period a few years back.
"You learn everything about each other when it’s just the two of us in a very confined space," Karstan said.
